If anyone could help me out I'd be indebted! Have a Cherokee at our shop that needs a rear driveshaft. Our suppliers sent what they thought it needed but was way too short, and incorrect hardware.
Anything used around that I could sent measurements for and compare?

specs on the jeep may help those who might have one. year, engine, trans, case, rearend? not sure if 2dr/4dr are same wheelbase or not, I think they are, but may as well throw it in. and what color - definitely important.
-
99 jeep Cherokee. 4dr. Np231 and unsure of Chrysler or Dana 35? Pic included. 4.0, auto. Shaft length 36" with double cardan joint.

thats a custom shaft, probably a front that was re tubed shorter with the addition of a slip yoke eliminator.
harry or spencer would know best if there is some application of a front shaft that is a direct fit.... i have a few on the shop floor, all needing CV rebuild.
What is the shafts problem?
-
4 door auto XJ with slip yoke eliminator should use a stock front shaft there.
unfortunately I dont have one around.
-
what is the problem?
they arent bad to rebuild. I assume the CV centering ball in the double cardan is wasted (normal). Ive rebuilt them before with good success.
-
Tons of play in the tube and part of the front of the shaft is broken letting fluid leak. Not to sound dumb....but that's a SYE? Looked like a slip yoke to me, unless I'm just used to seeing a different style in my Rubicon.
Edit: just realized how dumb that sounds now. having the slip mid shaft would mean that would have to be an SYE correct? Well heres a better picture of the main problem (the sloppy shaft being secondary I guess)

Leaking from here.

That is a SYE yoke, albeit not a proper one. Rubicon likely had a flange instead of yoke.
What about pulling the front shaft and putting in the rear for a temp solution?
-
Customer isn't stranded...but we don't exactly excel in custom fixes. Need to know exact parts to get. Will we need to take the flange off? Whole tailhousing of transfer case?

That yoke has no seal provision. Can't help with part numbers without interwebs...
Is there branding on the aluminum tail housing?
-
looks like an improperly executed Hack n Tap
no seal provision is correct. need more info, this issue apparently did not just occur on its own lol

Seal probably bad, but actual Metal sleeve is broken, not sure if you can see what i mean.
Absolutely no numbers on tailhousing as far as i can see.

The seal surface should be a lot longer.
Here is a link to a Quadratec unit (http://www.quadratec.com/products/52237_9098.htm?gclid=CLyo1NOX8tACFZBLDQod2XIEOg). $40

It looks like there's a portion of a seal surface on that yoke, and it really is _broken_ off? I have _NO_ idea how that could possibly happen without the whole yoke having damage. I'd check carefully for the driveshaft being too long and bottoming out - but I don't know how that could possibly break the yoke that far up even if the bolt were loose and there was some play in the yoke.
-
This unit should be at m4...Definitely not here. *eyeroll*

fact!
-
That looks like an aftermarket tailhousing so whatever kit they got most definitely should have had the correct yoke, really weird.
Also, 96 or 97 was the end of the 231 with sealed slip yoke, went to just greased slip yoke around that time so it never would have had a seal there from the factory.
I thought a typical 4.0 AW4 Cherokee front shaft should fit the bill, but that may be more universally true for the hack and taps than the HD replacement shaft units. Measure the front shaft on it and compare, but 36" sounds long.

I'll pass on everything, thanks guys!

Just throwing it out there, I use normal front shafts with my Advanced Adapters HD SYE

Vic in Bristol do all of my drive shaft work. Excellent service and usually have parts in stock
Another vote on that's a full SYE kit, not a hack n tap SYE.
-
OEM is closed.
I believe Vic is getting set up in a home shop to do work, not sure if he's planning to continue more on the shaft or engine side though.

He is still in business. I just had a front driveshaft rebuilt by him. He's LOADED with parts and equipment in his shop behind his house. Must see

Looking for contact info for Vic. http://ontario.os-cubed.com doesn't work. Sierra needs a rear driveshaft made.

I don't think they "repair/rebuild" shafts anymore.
New business model is new made to order to your door.
-
That's what I'm looking for! Thanks!

They might will do that if you ask Vic! 8)

My take is that Vic and Loco would like to do new builds and not mess around with rebuilds. Having said that it someone wants a rebuild and doesn't show up with a bunch of bullshit rusted junkyard parts to save a dollar They will rebuild your a shaft. Remember this is a business and talking to them for 2-3 hours about how to save you $50 and then expecting them to only bill you for 1 hour of actual machine time is a stupid business model. I.E. why they closed to the public.
Give Vic a call. They just did a great rebuild for me on an Italian made machine for champagne filling and capping.

Sierra back to full duty status thanks to OCDriveshaft!
