Contemplating buying an "adventure " grade cooler. Read a few reviews from jeep magazines, camping outfitters and others. More people going on an annual week long camping trip next month and only one group has a decent one.
If I remember correctly, ryan had a yeti correct? Concensus seems to be they're great but others have caught them in quality and are less money and some better features for hauling in jeeps and boats. Canyon brand looks good... any others with experience?

whatever is at Costco..
you got to be gone way more than a week a year to validate buying anything more serious..
I have a huge cooler you can almost double as a coffin... paid $70 for it..
every year we have a birthday party at the house and fill with beer and bottle water and ice..
doesn't get moved for a week-10 days (im lazy, and drinking it down before emptying)
there are always cubes still in it..

I have a cheapie igloo and even a gallon block of ice is gone in 2 days. Weird.

I think it was ryan who has one of the yeti successors that isn’t so outlandishly priced. I don’t remember which it is though

your doing it wrong
cheepie walmart holds two 10lb blockes of ice for 5-8 days easy in my 50$ 105? can one
try to slide the cooler under something or in the shade. freeze any meet or anything before hand also helps. I usually throw in a bag of regular ice for drinks also.

Always in the shade, frozen stuff before. Must be super cheap, mine was only like $20. Probably zero insulation

I have an igloo cube that will last 4-5 days. I had an oldie before that, that would last like 1 day. I think improvements have been made in the last 20 years.

for the cost of a yeti you buy parts and supplies to learn fiberglass layup and build 2 coolers (including the learning).
Igloo makes a line that competes with yeti. I think it is the "professional" or "commercial" line. I've seen it at marinas and bass pro shops. First saw it at a restaurant supply place though. about 1/3 the price of yeti for same size. Folks swear by them here EXCEPT the lid hinges are prone to breakage. For a weekend a month... I expect they'd last 3-4 years. That's what I'd look for.
-
RTIC is the cheaper one. I had a yeti. Same thing.

Parents have the cube and works well. Just needed more storage, maybe I'll snag a cube or something decent but reasonably priced

Oddly enough mine is newish. But the top feels like it's hollow. No foam at all. Probably just designed for day trips.

We have a Grizzly, bought a show cooler last day of the show for a 'don't make me ship this back to the warehouse' price.
Canyon is the highest rated and one of the best prices. Yeti the lowest rating.
Here's a really good article. I talked to the guy who wrote it about lockers.

One thing about these types of coolers, they are HEAVY, like our day cooler weighs 20 lbs empty.
Our big white dead-body-sized cooler was great for camping, make sure there is some water with the ice and the ice blocks, will stay cool for 5 days.
IMO, these fancy coolers are not worth the money. Also heard Wal Mart came out with a knock off. might be worth looking into.

Just ordered a RTIC 20, ships 10/15/2016 :o

Cabelas has their own line of coolers and it's fantastic, I plan on getting one myself soon.

I looked at the Cabela's cooler and wow, it's HUGE with the handles like that.
I went on amazon and saw RTIC was on it, immediately ordered a tan 45, I hope to get it this week.
-
Love this thing! Only experienced 1/4 bag ice melt last weekend compared to total melt in similar sized cooler in the same conditions.
-
Nice! I never ended up buying one. Took my cheapy one and lost all ice in 4 days with nights near 38-42*. Ugg

I've got a dud for sure. Pretty sure there's zero foam in the top.
