the body already had a 10" stretch but i found it was way to narrow.
so i cut it to add 4" of width.
also, i dont like working with fiberglass. I will never do another glass body...

this thing will be very small. think go kart with a V8.
I had to find small seats. These are boat seats.

Sitting on the floor, basically my sitting position in anything ;D
Im 6.3" so i need to shove the seats as low as i can.
-
the floor of most of these type of cars/trucks is wood, like a boat.
That and the glass body did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling as far as safety goes.
So I went a different direction.
Steel floor with internal cage.

traditionally the rear is also a split wishbone setup. however it does not play well with V8 power. So to keep the look but have the performance i wanted, i designed a 4 link rear.
lower and upper links are 1-3/8" X .188 wall and use 7/8 heims.

Ford 1928 Model A grill shell.
to get the look i wanted i had to chop 4" of height out of it and notch it to fit inside the frame rails.
I also added some 1/4 rod to give it that hot rod look
a 1965 ford falcon 3 row radiator for a V8 just fits inside.

1930's Model A truck bed is hard to find in good shape. And if I did find one i was going to modify it anyways..
So decided to build my own.
I used a bead roller to give it the factory look.
started with the sides and then the floor.

car needed more foot room. so i built some side scoops using 22 gauge sheet steel. This gave me a nice rolling bend that follows the sweeping curves of the car.

fuel tank
this is 10"x36" stainless tank The tank is typically used up high in sand rails and 2wd buggies.
I wanted it tucked under the bed hidden away.
However the fill neck and line ports were in the wrong spots. So i had to move them.
I also did not like the straps that these use. i made new mounts. had to build a jig to roll the 3/8x5/8 bar stock.

the mounts to the body are 3/16" mild steel plate that i heated and formed over and anvil to match the body shape. then i added the posts and built up space where the post meets the mount with weld. next, using a flap disc on my grinder, i formed the transition curves and got it all smooth. Then using a rosebud on the torch, i heated the post and formed them to the exact angles i wanted. (just a slight tweak, its amazing how 1/2 deg is visible) Now the post material is hollow, so to allow for the windscreen mount bolts to pass through and have some clamping force, i milled up some slugs and welded them in. The though bolt that allows the windscreen to hinge is a 3/8 fine thread. i did that so i can use the traditional windscreen wing nuts. (not pictured) The windscreen its self is 1/2" black pipe that i milled a 5/16 slot. this allows for the u channel grommet and the glass. The glass will install from the bottom and i will put small tac welds to hold the bottom of the windscreen frame. I still plan to mill some decorative grooves in the pillars.
