Took forever to get the new trans ready. Tail shaft has different threads for the speedo hold down, I had to dig out a fine thread bolt. Lots of shut to swap over. Cleaning the pan out took a while and a full can of brake clean with those cooling tubes running through it.
I'm going to drive this like a full manual this weekend but it isn't really. It has a kickdown cable (that I had to seal up and block off) and functional vacuum modulator (capped off). Quick reads told me that the vacuum modulator is what controls part throttle up shifts, but is too dumb to do the downshifting at low vacuum and high load, hence the kickdown cable. This vac modulator is upgraded to an adjustable unit.
I'm going to go ahead and hook that shit up. If I could get the trans to work well in drive, that's one less thing to think about, and there's no reason it shouldn't be able to.
I have the trans in the chassis but not all the way home. Still have to flush coolers, install belts & a seat, console and wire switches, window net, and water pump. I'm not going to bother with tcase shifters and I'm sure a few other things will get skipped. If I could teleport to PA and get to Shamokin early enough I would hit AOAA for a shakedown lap, but odds on that are absolutely zero with travel taking time. Oh well.
Going to do a bit more reading now to see if I need to extend the kickdown cable and lock it there to avoid doing harm. I hope not, I don't have a great way of doing that.
