race prep?
what's gotta get done?
I also just posted on FL asking about departure plans...
[/quote]
(1)I have been toying with throwing the PSC ram on for this race, but leaving the mounts for both. Everything would swap back and fourth to a new car, or its only 300$ in parts meh.
(2)id like to pull the front shocks and put them on the rear, put the new shocks on the front
(3)Front driver bump pad deserves an extention
(4)wash job / new profender decals
(5) mount extra yellow top
(6) fluids changes
(7) check both front king pins / weld up passengerside also
(8) front tool bag mount
(9) mount new highlift
(10) check front shaft everything
(11) grease job
(12) wheel studs
-
Do you want me to check what springs I have, replace some bent ones?
-
have any 250 or 300;s in lower coil size for 14"S?
-
I have 250 300 and 325

reset front diff preload
steering fixed way better, i think it might last more than a lap tight

You starting soon after work tonight? I'll be there.
-
ill be at the shop at 6, i might try to wash it quick tonight first.
-
How does it sit with the new springs?
-
not bad, front is good, rear has a lot of preload.
-
Less than 3" of preload?
-
i started with 1" on the bench which got me 3" of thread showing. i ended up at 5" of thread showing so ya i got about 3" in the rear, probably 2" in the front
-
untill i get tires back on it ill decided if i need to go a little stiffer or not in the rear where my ride height is. right now i am thinking i am still an inch or so too low in the back.

lots of other things still on the list
found trans mount bolts loose, welds to hold bolts broken! cleaned and welded again.

car rain race prepped.
-
car is in good shape. almost had enough beverage last night to chop off tubes in the back and make more room for tool bags. Got the new dewalt in but no room for 18v grinder, meh.
All too bags and fluids packed, she is race ready minus drinking water and occupants, ready to pull into trailer. tonight will be a casual shopping and packing trailer night.
low oil pressure light installed also ::)

Need to hook that to a tazer wired to the co-driver, in case he doesn't see it. Hahaha!

Pre-ran in monsoon downpour. It was moist.
First pic is Karl Knack not making upper talisman after we did. Second pic is ryan before he didn't either ;D

No race for us. Wet motor issues.
-
we took 5th. it was a shit show, not a single clean lap.
two krts tore up, a coil over bent, lost a tail light, bent steering ram, electrical issues, blew a banjo bolt off an lost brakes. winch cable never came out all weekend.
when running we were doing very well despite my failure in setting the back of the truck up way too low.
-
Congrats on the 5th place.
Sorry to hear about the mess!

I was going to try and remember who we passed coming down Talisman and passed us back when we changed to tire and had the fan issue but I don't. At least not for sure.
If it was Lambert (an I think it may have been), our clean lap time would have been around 34:00 - which would be right among the fastest. shitty.
If you want a hand prepping anything before 101 let me know. I have a few loose ends with both my trucks but I can spare a night, I'm sure.
-
it will probably get washed and some coils put on the back on the back to fix the slamming
i think one of the front bumps is hosed too, or it lost pressure- only showing 3" of shaft.
ill be wishing i had the correct wheel studs to run the TSLs at jareds
-
What weight coils do you think you need?
I can get all your broken shocks and make a good one or 2 out of them, if you want. I have parts and seals and things to fix most of the problems.
Seems odd for the bump, lets investigate that a little more, It covered under warranty anyway.
-
i think i have enough coils to play with to get it right.
ill take a look at what i have and see what piecing options back together are.
-
I know we can make 2 good ones out of what you and I have, maybe all 3. We should at least replace oil and seals in the older ones, its been a while. ;D
If you can be without them for a couple days, I can take the older ones and broken ones and fix them up and give them a re-build.
-

prerun was 125/150 and then went to 125/200, correct? Huge issue with not enough uptravel in both cases.
I think 150/200 with a dual rate stop present and set at 1-2", with 6-7" of shaft showing instead of 4" would be a goot place to start. I also think it could use more compression valving but that may be mainly a side effect of not enough spring rate.
I think the front felt pretty good.
my barely-informed 2¢
-
150/200 is still too soft. we will have to go much more rate in the rear to get 3" more of shaft, and 2-3" preload.
with 125/200 on there now, 4" shaft showing, 3" preload, math says thats 1000lbs per back corner corner- i cant imagine that is correct. (not ignoring angles would make that number even more)
with that same 1000lbs to get 7" shaft with 2" preload, id need a rate of 110lbs/in or like 200/250 or 150/300
not sure if parts shocks will allow dual rates on back shocks
-
my understanding gets me ~490#/corner with those numbers
That might sound close-ish to rear sprung weight? 5k car, 70/30 to 60/40 weight bias, 1500+ unsprung; 3500 sprung so front 2000 rear 1500 might be closeish, bar napkin style. 2500/1000 seems a little too front-heavy but for throwing random numbers around in addition to having the angles playing tricks on linear vs actual rates, it seems ballpark reasonable
where am I wrong?
for dual rate the total rate is both springs added/2; 3" preload given as fact (I'm not so sure of that number)
(125+200)/2 * 3" = 487.5#
with a proper die, dual rates on those bodies might be doable again; not sure if there would be enough thread left to hold up.
-

thats wrong
its 1/K1 +1/k2 = 1/kTotal its like resisters in series.....
-
F=Kx
1/K1 +1/k2 = 1/kTotal
i looked at it as 4" shaft showing, means 10" shaft compressed plus 3" preload, or 13" total spring compression agains total rate (no dual rate stops)
13*total rate
i also ignored the 100lbs or so from the nitro charge

No, parallel.
Series is r1+r2+r3+r4=RT
-
what a man, i have to think about this now
-
o ya parallel, but my math is right, correct?
-
for springs, i think so. I would have to look at my notes in the shop.
I used this too:
http://f-o-a.com/calculator.html
was spot on.
Also here is a fancy one from BV.

Forgetting to add the compressed distance was quite retarded of me, and I'm embarrassed.
I was ignorant of sum of rates being figured in inverses. makes sense throwing it in a graph and looking at it and thinking about it. That's just a fail on thinking things through.
-
thats ok, you are allowed to be dumb with your degree more than i am :)

A²+B²=C² !!!!!!
-
nope, that one's for track bars and drag links, Nick!
-
man this pile took a beating this weekend, it has to be in the worst shape ever after a race i have ever seen haha
-
nope, that one's for track bars and drag links, Nick!
Nope. Wrong again mike... lol
Its for digging square holes!

odd slapping noise when shocks not banging was actually the high lift. not the handle but the actual high lift. mount bolts were loose.
air bump has pressure but is locked up, doesn't look to be bent or damaged from outside.
-
Note to self: tighten with big rock, not small rock.

Thbbbbb.
-
looks like we took 5th over all in the series
-
i just thought of something.
could have flipped the line lock on and kept going with only front brakes and never got out.....
>:(
-
truth. damn.
I was trying to figure out why pounding that line shut did anything without adding fluid anyway. I'm sure the rear chamber was empty anyway.
-
if you dont let up 100% on the brakes it holds it so you dont have to pump the air up 20 pumps
