Radiator alone it woulda been done though. I have that in stock.

True though, pulling the frontend is annoying.

Gave an immobilizer error today. Haven’t chased. Hopefully battery disconnect fixes and it never ever repeats especially with Sarah possibly driving regularly.
Stranded in the garage at home right now. Couldn’t force it to be ok. Shame on me.

Need to figure the fuck out how to get into these computers. I’d gotten close and do have a working bench harness so i can recover if I brick it.

Got that immo issue taken care of late Monday night. What a fuck of a day that was… now if it doesn’t read the cluster will blink but it will run.

Just did the lower rad hose, stat neck and gasket, and the biggest leak I think was the spider o ring at the driver side of the head above the trans.

Radiator doesn’t look great and I probably should have spent the extra couple hours to change it, but I still haven’t seen a drip from it and all those that have leaked have looked much worse with big crusty separation at the tanks. This thing looks like it’s had tap water in it at some point so a CLR flush is probably called for when I do swap radiator.

20 year old cars do need attention now and then I guess.

Hopefully the shop mice drink up what I left on the floor…

Snows off. Right front wheel bearing changed. Found a pretty good method on changing the bearing. MUCH better than the first time i did one when i was still in the trailer on my very first vw. No pics.

A one piece double ball bearing is pressed into the knuckle and retained with a big c clip. then the hub flange & spline is pressed into the bearing. Can beat the hub out from the back side pretty easily, then suck the bearing into the 4” pipe with washer and sockets and a long bolt. Installation simply the reverse of removal haha

Hopefully it’s quiet now, the right front bearing was loose but it sounded like left side bearing from both sides. I’ve been wrong by ear every time in these cars so only test drive will tell. It had a good amount of play for 150k miles.

Low coolant light yesterday and today. At least it waited until I got home.

Guess I need to stop post-vacation recovery and get to work lol

Coolant flange to head RTV’d. replacement ordered for next occurrence.

RTV will likely be a long term fix.

replaced coolant flange with new part. appears to be good.
Unexpected ABS actuation without any failure lights. Pulled fuses 7 & 8 under the hood to disable ABS pump as immediate fix. Sarah needed to do some running around, so will address that as well as leaking exhaust flex pipe later.

This needs a new px headlight and we’ll see what else. Hood and fender bent, license plate adjusted and bumper cover at least scuffed.

Forester she tapped looks like just bumper cover. Px front to driver rear…

I always have to think hard which is which haha
The car emoji aren’t helpful.

At least it’s the rusty fender that I never swapped.
The hood wrinkle is going to be challenging at best.
