one of the nicest Rubicons i have worked on!
awesome jeep.
-
One of the best mods I have done to date, 16" big brake kit by Vanco/Savvy/Blackmagic
Beefy knuckle

install was straight forward, but the ball joints were a bitch to remove due to previous owners lack of care.

Next up one of my Christmas Gifts, The ARTEC Front truss with Currie Johnny Joints... http://www.artecindustries.com/Front-Axle-Truss-for-TJ-LJ-ZJ_p_334.html .... and inner axle seal replacement
-
Nice light,
Where are the Headlight Upgrade pics..... ;D
-
Pics of headlight conversion to come ;D
-
alu or steel fenders?
start watching the frame.. looks a little crusty..
-
Steel, alum I was afraid with trees and tight trails, I plan to wire wheel the surface rust and apply chassis saver this summer...
-
frame was great when when we did the long arm and cut the brackets off
-
good to hear...
get the inside as well..
TJ frames after 1998 were treated from the factory less than well..
i guess its just upstate scale im trying to never get use to
-
frame still looks mint, just flaking in some spots no weak spots
-
H4 headlight upgrade / Lifetime LED install, Bright light output and no one flashes. I had to adjust the light a little higher for the light to reach out, probably a design flaw in the housing by KC

Awesome.
The lights gets adjusted up because our bulbs only illuminate on the top of the bulb in low beam instead of 360" I had to adjusr mine and the ones in the mini-van as well.
-
New A pillar lights installed with PSC brackets, wires ran with inline fuse to new switch cluster

UPS just delivered my Currie anti-rock and some more aluminum armor from Savvy off road, Prepped ARTEC d44 front truss with chassis saver and taped off weld spots. Looks like around the first week of March it should be installed. I do not have a cool shoppe like most, but my basement and some old boxes do just fine for paint.

today was a nice day, so i figured I would install my ANTIROCk sway bar. install was simple
(https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1.0-9/10014624_10100315626634197_8093118282453715375_n.jpg)

Also installed Savvy Off road tailgate skin
(https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/10250172_10100317031014807_3613343810856213815_n.jpg)

-
Tiger shark 9500 installed. lost 5lb in water weight... steel cable pulled.. master pull synthetic on the big brown truck
-
Looks good. Clean looking Jeep
-
Make sure you have some load on the rope when you're putting it on the winch, like have it pull your Jeep up a slight incline or something. I did not do this and the first time I went to use it, it just kept wrapping tighter and tighter on the winch and not pulling me anywhere... it did eventually but then the rope was a bitch to untangle after the fact.
-

thanks!

New rear calipers pads and rotors installed. Still can not install parking brake shoes. that lever that the parking brake cable attaches to is seized. anyone know what part it is? -
it should look like this new. cant find them online.
-
You probably can put it on a vise and break it free. Lots of PB...
-
tried with pb and some heat, no go
-
my dog loves to work on the jeep with me.... esp when im under it in some awkward position.

-
More BFH? They're probably a dealer only item.
-
Yeah that's a dealer only part . That's what fell into my parking brake system and melted into a mess
-

-
It arrived...
-
Big thanks to smike for pressing my axle shafts. Thanks! Install to follow
-
Installed new Ten factory axles and Black magic brakes reveres brake kit on the rear. moves caliper to the front to help with more grip from parking brake and helps with space for stretch.
Tear down went smooth, everything looked good, sanded rust and primed / paint.

rear diff fluid changed 75w-140
-
installing a new MC / brake booster, looking for input on how to bench bleed the MC
-
this should help :)
http://bit.ly/1BemwYH
-
smart ass. i did use Google to search. figured id ask people i know for any tips... ill remember to flame you next time lol
-
That's great mike.
Can you create one for me to send to my guys?
How to clean up the shop after a project?
LOL
-
Just run some bent lines in and pump it a little while after you see no bubbles. Usually it's no big deal.
-
That's great mike.
Can you create one for me to send to my guys?
How to clean up the shop after a project?
LOL
nah, that's not something I can create a training on.
unless it can fall under "those who can't do, teach"
-
Installed fox stabilizer. Night and day difference in ride and steering quality.
-
Gone for 2/weeks to Austin ... Installed new MC/brake booster last night.... Flushed brake fluid Now I know what good brakes feel like. Especially after installing thatbig brake kit....
-
So I come home from training.. Go to drive my jeep. I have a squeak/chirp from brake booster when i step on brakes... I have a very soft peddle and I can no longer lock up my tires. Before I left when I bled my brakes it was with force. Now it has a soft stream... Any clue what the issue may be..
New master
New brake booster with hardware
-
Sounds like a failed seal in the master?
Tapatalking in traffic
-
Crushed left rear shock... Steering wheel off center. Got minor fixes.. All in all a great trip
-
check your toe, dont wana chew up your tires if something got knocked a little
good trip- your jeep works pretty well in the rocks
time to start saving for chromo shafts / RCV's!
-
Smike . can you get me price on 2 FOX-980-24-645. Thanks
-
you are out of your mind putting 240$ in shocks on one end of this thing
get some chromo shafts
put whatever 10$ junk shocks you can find on it ;D
-
This.
The rear shocks get badly abused on a TJ. You should also brace up the lower shock mounts because they bend. Not "if" but "when."
-
What shocks should I run.
-
Whatever is on sale at Summit.
-
http://www.rubicontested.com/TEN-Factory-4340-Chromoly-Jeep-Dana-44-Front-Axle-Kit-97-06-TJ-Rubicon-30-Spline.html
Dan can probably do something like that or cheaper. Email him dmrtransmission@gmail.com
-
Thanks! Will do. That's the kit I was looking at. Don't wana spend 1k on rcv
-
What's a good place in Roch to get aluminum sheets. Making a deck cover
-
Pacemaker in Manchester delivers to Rochester everyday. Dan is the guy there.
can't remember where Smike and Mike get their aluminum.
-
KSD
Klein steel direct
-
Shocks installed... Garage cleen. Rear storage build under way
-
Steering wheel re centered after weeks of being lazy.. Front pads replaced with OEM for colder weather.. Noticed lower control axle mounts bending. See some new stocking stuffers
-
Installed rear storage for tools.. Noticed in tub where body mounts bolt that on on the left side it caved up as if the body gave way alowing the mount.to suck up into the tub a little bit... Its odd on how this happened.. Any idea what may have caused this... Or if this will have any negative effect
-
Got a pic or two?
-
any rust starting there? sounds like typical body mount failure when the tub gets soft - remember the back of Matt's YJ?
-
No pics I'll have to take one No rust.. Does not feel soft. My tub is bed lined so hard to tell.. But it defenetly is a failure. I can see the bolt concave up in tub...
-
TJ frames are the weakest jeep frames ever to leave the factory...
they were NOT coated by DC in an effort to save $ per vehicle..
Auto Rust Tecnitans have made quite a nice name for themselves in the jeep aftermarket due to this...
SVE in CT does about 3 TJs a month and they don't use salt on the roads...
-
Its not the frame that's giving and issue.. Its the tub that gave in a little.. Or am I not understanding it
-
This is a pic I found online.. This is a very extreme case... But this is what will happen if I let it go.. The bolt end is starting to push the tub up and has a small dent starting to form
-
so body mounts shot/ brackets bent from tub hitting from flex?
-
I would guess?? But I don't understand how this would happen when it should be a solid mount.. At first I thought it was a shock mount when I discovered it thinking it was from pressure of flex/wheeling.. Like I said.. Its solid no evidence of rust underneath or in tub itself...?
-
How bad do your bushings look at the body mounts?
-
1 year old 1" body lift, correct? good poly
-
Yes installed 1 year ago.. Poly pucks by Daystar.. Supposed to be good quality.. Looks good
Smike don't let any say you have a bad memory.. Your spot on
-
That's crazy! That cross member is fairly stout. Other parts of the frame will rust before that should give.
Check your rear body mounts as they do tend to have rust issues. Check your rear bump stops to make sure that the shock isn't bottoming and bending that cross member.
I'd have to lay eyeballs on it to say more than that...
-
Result of less compliant poly compared to stock rubber?
-
I thought that too, Harry, but couldn't make it make sense why that would manifest there and not elsewhere
Tapatalking in traffic
-
I'm stumped .. I'll have to take the puck out when it warms up a bit.. And take a better look
-
Is the other side showing signs of the same?
-
Not that I can tell.. Looks normal
-
Sold. Money's going to save for a southern LJ and trailer to go grab it.
-
Woah!!
My Appalachian was $2500 brand new
-
what????? can t wait to see the next set of wheels.
-
Had to.. I will be 100% tied up all summer with no time to my self until November.. It's a sad day for me.
-
sold or traded in?
do i own your spare tire now thats been here for a year? lol
-
You can own it for a fee.. But you can't use a 35.. All proceeds going to trailer AND LJ
-
Smike, remember my buddy Shane who came to your shop with me around Christmas time? He is most likely buying this haha
-
not really, but sad letting dealers make 4K for nothing.
