This is a cool looking little chassis.
I would like to get opinions from Smike on the chassis design and what is needed still, and Eroc on the Honda engine (models of cars they were in and things) and the axles.
Let me know when you guys can look at this hog. Most of it is still in the trailer.

Im pretty open, not much going on. ;D
-
When is it that you're laid off?
-
One week.
-
building for wreck or race?
-
Just cruising, no racing.
-
Chassis looks fine then :)
-
Haha, I still need it to not cave in when I roll it. 8)

Call it "Severance"

This is the engine I have, 142hp, need to find a harness and computer

JDM version has a compression 9.4:1 where the usdm version is 9.2:1.
JDM version has a higher compression ratio which results in higher hp and tq levels than the usdm version.
-
USDM, huh? I'm pretty sure only Japan OR the US can be domestic. And I'm pretty sure USEM (or world export depending on Europe) would be a wee bit more accurate. Stupid ricers!
-
I could use some help lifting the motor out of the trailer. Its a 2-man job. ;D
-
Pick a night...
you never did this!
-
Tonight? Tomorrow night?
Im pretty open these days.
-
Im pretty open these days.
you did mention that part :)
want me to see if we need any network engineers here?

That would be fantastic. Thanks

I can swing by sometime. Let me know!
-
its raining, and beverage 2 was gone a bit ago,
when is the unavailing and naming happening
-
Smike, do you have any 1.5" .120" tubing you can make me a new shock hoop? The one side is pretty bent, i think it will be easier to put a new one in than try to straighten this one.
I can cut it out and bring it up to copy.
-
i have zero 1.5" in my shop- this has annoyed me a few times. next tube order will have a couple sticks.
does erik have a 180 die for 1.5?
-
Just saw this. I would like to try it for a CL ad.

I'm loving those comments

Did a couple hours of welding on this hog. Ran out if wire.
Picked up a donor car. It's a sweet ride.

-
Noice!
-
Is that like yours that got stolen? :)
-
What is that Rice Burning 2WD Thing?
-
That is a sweet 1995 Acura Integra. All the parts I need plus it will give me a spare motor and trans all for $600
-
Scoreee!
-
and probably 350$ in scrap
-
nah you can sell the shit out of honda parts
-
What can I sell out of it? I need motor and wiring. I also need trans a cv shafts.
-
interior parts, gauges, sunroof, windows, doors, hood, fenders, brakes and parts (swap to civic), lights
-
interior parts, gauges, sunroof, windows, doors, hood, fenders, brakes and parts (swap to civic), lights
He's probably right people like to make their 90's civics look bad ass. And what better way than some sweet oe parts from a fancy car.
-
I was a ricer ;D
-
I spent a few hours today cutting all the brackets off. Its almost ready for new brackets from RuffStuff.
-
(http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_3517.jpg)
-
Nice.
Bolted the motor in last night. The trans that came with it does not bolt to the motor.
-
D series trans?
What came with the car stick?
-
The car is auto. I was planning on having a spare trans. Guess that is not going to happen.
Now I think I might just use the motor and trans from the Integra.
-
Oh I thought that was the plan. You got a motor with it too?
-
Yes sir. Motor and trans. Motor looks to be rebuilt.
-
The trans that came with it does not bolt to the motor.
"ready to run!!"
-
Hahahaha, I was not mislead on any of it, unlike the "ready to run"
-
i would put everything from the doner car in if it runs at all
-
Hahahaha, I was not mislead on any of it, unlike the "ready to run"
FML
-
Hanson is making the hoop, they said $30 for time and materials. I call that good.
Ordered some PRP seats fro this hog today. Everything will be built around the seats and me fitting it it comfortably, Im not driving with my knees on this one.
-
You can't help that.
-
This buggy will be known as Moose.
Motor coming out of the car today. Good times.
-
This buggy will be known as Moose.
Can't wait til you need a replacement knuckle on this. "Lol's" will be had! ;D
-
Hahaha, I have Moose Knuckle
Also I have a problem, Got the motor out.
The trans has a jackshaft going to the drivers side of the car, would be the rear axle on the buggy. I cant use that and it looks like a regular cv shaft will not fit in there to make adapters to a driveshaft.
What trans can I get to fit this motor and not have a jackshaft. I have another trans, I believe its a HG or something that will not bolt to the 1.8 motor.
-
you have broken the rules of naming, fail. i will not accept.
-
you have broken the rules of naming, fail. i will not accept.
I'm with sMike on this.
-
Madison came up with it after seeing a license plate in my garage.
It's my buggy. I will name it whatever I want. :)
-
Sure, play the kid guilt card. Now we can't make fun of it... :P
-
Speak for yourself mark. I'll even make fun of it whn Madison is around. She's a tough kid she can take it ;)
(shit, she'll probably beat me up. So maybe not)
-
hmmm. I dont know squat about honda auto's but I dont think I've ever seen a non-jack shaft manual on a B series. Let me ask some folks.
-
You could also contact Rock Ape on pirate, he seems to be the go to honda buggy guy
-
I did ask him, he is looking into it as well. Seems that a B18 might not be the right motor to use.....
-
man you are milking this like a cow on a rainy day
-
A d series wouldn't have a jack shaft but about half the balls too.
-
Balls are a concern for me, I want at least some balls, more than the 1st gen Atom motor, but I dont need as much as the 2nd Gen atom motor. :)
-
I found a solution to my problem, Front Engine. Done.
One of the Yota axles is already flipped, just get a rear matching yota axle and It all set. I did not want rear steer anyway.
-
wont you have the same issue in the front?
-
Yes, I will. I just tried it, I guess im not too smart.
-
This guy is having the same problem
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4-discussion/1068205-johny5s-single-seat-transaxle-buggy-build.html
-
lol
-
I have only almost finished page one but I LOVE that buggy! the lines on it are just sick. I kinda want one just like it..... kinda.
-
okay, I finished that thread. I may have missed something but I just saw a WAY cool single seater coming together, I didn't see an issue with jackshafts. He was going to cut it up and mate it with some tcase parts for a driveline disconnect - seems reasonable. I also saw he just welded a yoke onto the short side output too. Also seems potentially reasonable.
-
There is no room for what he wanted to do. There is no room for any of that nonsense on the output that goes under the motor. I talked to him and he recommended not using this combo. The short side is easy. The long side is a problem with these engine trans combo.
-
oh, so it's the shaft being tight to the block/pan/etc that's the issue. gotcha
-
Hahaha, I have Moose Knuckle
Also I have a problem, Got the motor out.

Didn't know if you solved this but talked to a big Honda nut here at work and he said they should be the same. Should be able to put the other side in and run it without the jack shaft.
-
Sounds like its a clearance issue not a diff fitment issue if I'm grasping this properly.
-
Yeah there is not enough space to fit the end of a cv shaft.
-
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/3484771069.html
-
That's the same one I just sold.
-
Need a d series
-
Yep. Or a Nissan motor, or something similar.
I am looking now.
The guys that bought the motor gave me some good ideas. Pull the cat and scrap that seperate, fill the gas tank and seats with water.
I can run any small 4cyl i can find with an auto.
-
They don't like being stolen from....
-
We have tons of wrecks in the lot at work any perticular nissan. If you don't need a title I can possibly get you one for scrap price.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk 2
-
if it has a gas tank, they deduct 200lbs
-
I only need a title to scrap it when Im done, or do you have some kind of paperwork that takes care of that?
A Sentra would work, has to be auto. Or a Corolla, small 4-cyl FWD auto is all I need. Any car will work as long as it is whole and runs, I need to pull the wiring harness and computer to use as well. Take a look at what you have available and let me know.
They don't like being stolen from....
Im not filling anything with water, thats too much work. But it is pouring rain and the windows are open.....
Removing the cat is just smart.
-
if it has a gas tank, they deduct 200lbs
Hmm that new? They did not do that when I scrapped the tracker.
-
Matt just called this week for the Silverado he scrapped- thats what they said.
-
Seems like they are stealing from you if you dont fill the tank.......
Anyone going to CT or coming back from CT soon?

sure does, go figure.
way to make me eat my words, guys!

Anyone going to CT or coming back from CT soon?

Harrison is. Not sure on exact dates.
-
Lot of money in gas to cover 20 in shipping..
Would spend more gas going out of the way..
The guy won't ship?
-
Anyone going to CT or coming back from CT soon?
http://www.toyotacrawlers.com/forum/index.php?topic=28059.0
Harrison is. Not sure on exact dates.
Leaving here early Friday afternoon. Will be in Roc during the day 26th-30th. I need to get some parts to Tom too.
Edit: What am I picking up? Fit in a Focus? (I've put complete axles in it)
-
I have not been approved on the forum yet, cant post.
I want them all, if he will ship that would be ideal.
-
Is Southington near you?
I want all his driveshafts, if he still has them....
-
Is Southington near you?
I want all his driveshafts, if he still has them....
Probably 30 minutes out of the way on my way to NY. If you look at a map, I will be leaving from Middletown and heading up 9 to 91 to the Mass pike. Regardless, I don't mind picking them up as long as he can meet Friday afternoon at the latest.
-
Great, thanks. i will talk to him as soon as I get registered there.
-
For $120 I'd take the working trans an tcase. those are good bench parts when I have a TDI around.
If you're going to see him anyway, anyway. If it happens let me know your booze payment of choice!
-
No problem. Just figure out payment stuff (Paypal, I can front the cash, whatever) and lemme know. I never would have guessed my Focus would be such a great parts getter.
-
thats a smoking deal for a top shift case
-
PM has been dispatched.
-
Contact has been established, Waiting on return reply and address.
What is ideal for you Harrison?
-
Tonight or tomorrow night (probably after 6pm would be best) or early Friday afternoon. If you have an email address or phone number, I can coordinate pickup. Just let me know what the payment plan is.
So I am picking up a transmission, transfercase, and two driveshafts?
-
4 or 5 driveshafts. :)
-
Yes, trans and tcase for me.
if you can spot me that'd be great, otherwise I can piggyback on something, paypal you now, whatever's clever and good for you.
-
Haha that's fine, let me know when you have contact info and a deal worked out.
-
No problem spotting the cash for you guys. Ryan, do you wanna just get a price for all driveshafts and Mike's stuff as a package?
-
Yes, done, He said $310 for all.
$200 driveshafts
$110 trans-t/case which is a hell of a good price.
-
you guys are the guys!
that's definitely a steal. Where will you be when you're in town? Figure meeting up at your convenience would be best.
-
I will be in Sodus Friday night, and in and out of the city all week. Although I would probably prefer to unload several hundred pounds from my car sooner than later ;D
Maybe we could arrange to meet at Spencer's or something over the weekend? Close to in between and I have stuff for him too.
-
Sounds good to me,
I will forward any contact info I get.
-
TDI, trans, & tcase... sounds like someone has a buggy to build ;D
-
PM sent to Harrison with contact details.
-
I need to do the work on it - I got the parts and tools, I should be driving it for the winter!
-
Picking that shat up tonight. Anything I need to look out for?
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/19/uveqyda5.jpg)
Everything looks good! Tcase and tranny look squeaky clean inside.
-
LOOK AT THAT SWEET PARTS HAULING MACHINE
-
Awesome thanks, How many driveshafts are there?
-
Two short, too long and then a couple slip yokes.
-
BAM!
-
Two short, too long and then a couple slip yokes.
Scratch that, three short ones and two long. I unloaded the stuff this morning.
-
Scrapped 2460 pounds.
Time to find something else.
I made a little cash on the deal and kept some parts for the buggy. I still have a few things to sell as well.
-
The PRP seats came in today. They have a mesh part on the back of the bottom seat part. Water will not be able to sit in these. Best feature ever.
-
They fit perfectly.

pics on facebook look good.
Have you thought at all about 3rd member gears?
so if this cars top OE speed is like 100mph
with 4.10s and the same size tires youd be at 25mph top speed.... 37's maybe 35-40mph?
id find some 2.73's or 3.07s
just something to think about, get your redline up to 50-55
-
chip is picking up some sticks of 1.5" 120 today, call him if you need any, i asked for 2 additional sticks if they had it in stock

Picked up a D60 Chevy front and D60 Ford rear yesterday for this guy. They are complete with 3.55 gears got them silly cheap. ;D
-

-
He had a Ford front no other chevys.
I will keep an eye out.
-
look good tight packaging
-
That's is a monster rad!
-
That sucker is 3" thick and is dual pass, its 4x as much surface area as the stocker. ;D

Think it enough ti cool that monster 4cyl?

Hurry up! Big Dogs is getting close...
-
Too busy at work?
-
Exactly.
-
what size tire is that?
3 link fix looks good
-
Thanks. The 4 link would not work. It interfered with the driveshaft. I have to relocate the oil filter.
They are 37s. Unsure if I like them or not.
The rear should be much easier. Sitting on shocks by the weekend is the goal.
-
They are 37s. Unsure if I like them or not.
let me know if you get more not sure

I'm still looking for other options. Not finding much. I would like some pitbulls so I can follow Jeff.

-
Dont hate on the Trail Buggy, By the looks of it this will be done before 572.........
-
thats probably for the better, because you will need the spool gun on 571!
-
Its light weight so it doesn't need to be as strong right
-
looks like a cool buggy. sure it will have some bugs like them all.
-
Get it done....mister retirement
-
Winch.

Steering parts and Yukon order showed up today.

Steering ram.

Looking good.
Looking forward to seeing this beast in the woods.
-
stopped over and looked at this thing! looks awesome- way ahead of where i thought ryan was on it.
needs wires, pluming, drive shafts and she will be a machine!
-
Long one is from the Profender buggy short one is this axle. Why are they different lengths? Spindle nuts are also different. They are big hex nuts not the kind that take the socket with the prongs.
-
Interesting on lengths. Not sure
I have an extra set of 6 prong nuts if you want them.
-
I like the hex ones, there is a part that bends over the outside nut to stop it from loosening up.
-
Long side is the same.
-
hhmmm kinda looking like a Dodge
Chevy rotors are about 1.5" thick, the Ford and Dodge rotors are about 1.25" thick
http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60%20Front%20Shafts.html
-
It's all done and back together. Only different shaft is the short side inner. Not sure why.
-
Anyone want to buy this and finish it?
-
No time in retirement to work on it? What does Liz have to say about this? ;D
-
I guess I need to learn to wheel myself :)
-
Motivation is lacking. Maybe it's the weather. Meh.
-
Suck it up. Weather is improving daily. Wheelin' season is here. Let's go!
-
Last week when I saw you, you looked 37 but your acting like 67. What's deal.
-
Trade ya a Toyota
-
trade ya an XJ
-
Ryan gave me the buggy. Now what do I do with it?
-
trade ya an XJ
With RCVs and a front Aussie? ;D
-
Ryan gave me the buggy. Now what do I do with it?
1) Drop it off at M4 with a punch list.
2) Paint it pink so Ryan wont steal it back!!
3) Wheel the @#$% out of it.
4) Enjoy.
-
That sounds like a good plan. M4 works for free right? :)
-
trade ya an XJ
With RCVs and a front Aussie? ;D
if it runs.. sure
-
Haha. No it's far from done.
-
Major fab work done. Driveshaft done. Time to take it apart to finish weld and make a skid plate. I should grab a piece of something for the roof. HDPE or aluminum?
-
Roof and skids done.

Getting shit done.

-
XJ trade?
-
back to planet earth, buggy looks good ryan. not sure i like the diamond plate, but it is growing on me
-
shes looking like a buggy
-
Test run this weekend?
-
If you have a weekday you want to test it, I'd be willing to go...
-
i could do saturday after 2 hours on the lift with 571 to patch up some things
-
WP?
-
My welds look better thanks to Smikez welding tips.
-
Snazzy! sMike give lessons?
Is Moose going to make an appearance at the car show?
-
Doubtful.
Smike told me I have been doing it wrong the whole time. Too much heat.
-
what was the snazzy oil filter adaptor thing for cooler lines and pressure sender you had on the profender buggy?
i cant find it on summit
-
this?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hda-225/overview/make/chevrolet
-
Yea, it was something like that, I dont remember it having a thermostat.
My 6.0 had a factory oil cooler line set up, so I just used the adapter plate for oil pressure
-
ok
what shifter did you use?
im getting lazy
found 144" throttle cable instock at summit 45$!
-
I used the gated Winters shifter, it is a nice unit but not cheap.
http://www.wideopendesign.com/Product/97/Art-Carr-Winters-Shifter.aspx I used the flush mount.
-
you get the installation kit to? 225$ meh nice though
-
I thought it came with everything you need. Those install kits might just be if you are changing transmissions.
Rock gate would be a nice gate for it, going from r to d would be much faster than witht he normal gate.
-
5.38's ordered for this guys instal
-
Alternator and PS pump both need to be replaced. Transmission is not shifting correctly, it seems. Need to investigate that.
It gets super hot inside this buggy, heat shielding and exhaust relocation are needed.
Brakes dont work, need to investigate that. Residual valves may need to be added, or a bigger master cylinder.
-
No more buggy riding for me until the heat issue and brakes are taken care of. Flying backwards into a tree due to lack of brakes is not a good time.
-
liz is whining like a middle schooler
-
Yes I am.
-
Liz that wasn't a tree that us pushing you up the hill.
-
(http://www.rc4x4.org/rcforum/Smileys/old/24.gif)
-
A little warning next time on that one would be great :)
-
Sorry
-
Most of the upgrade list is done. Just need to tweak the new brake pedal and install a new gas pedal.
New inserts showed up yesterday fir the h1s. Who wants to install them?
-
I changed out one of the rubber inserts in the H1 wheels. I think I will just leave them in the 4 that are on the buggy. They are very low profile, and no sharp edges. I dont think its worth the work to change them out.
The tires have the thickest sidewall I have ever seen.
-
The tires have the thickest sidewall I have ever seen.
This was not Spencer's experience with the OZ's
-
These are the newer MT/R than what Spencer has, I am happy with them so far.
-
Ryan has the MTRs. They may be better.
That said I wouldn't run them under 18 psi in rocks.
-
I ran them at 15psi when I took it out once. I think I will go down a lot lower next time. My buggy is significantly lighter than a ZJ......
-
Most of the upgrade list is done. Just need to tweak the new brake pedal and install a new gas pedal.
what was on the list?
I thought the buggy did great for a debug run.
I can only remember the tires hitting the rear tube work...
-
New Master cylinder and booster, much better brakes now, also added residual valves 2psi
More wiring hooked up so hopefully the trans shifts right
Mover muffler from under my ass
Added heat shielding inside the firewall and floor
Gears getting done at M4 soon
Power steering pump and alternator being done today, addition of a IAT should help power and driveability.
Replaced broken gas pedal
The lack of power on hills is annoying, so I think with the trans and engine wired together now it should be better, and with the gears it will have more climbing ability.
I might get to wheel it again this year, keeping my hopes up.
-
Loaded and heading to M4 tonight

5.38s in front and wrapped up
F;d up and got 14 bolt PN's and not 60 stuff

Anyone have any pics of any of this thing wheeling?
-
i do. whats your email?

I need to get the steering sorted our on this thing, the pump is making noise again, Smike thinks its because the orbital flows too much, its 1.5 turns lock to lock. Makes sense, a less flowing orbital would not cause the pump to cavitate, and would just reduce flow all together.
Could be just the pump is not up to the task.
Thoughts?
-
anytime ive experienced pump noise is fluid starvation, you need a resi like smike has on 571 for that thirsty beast

at 1.5 lock to lock your asking a lot for that pump.
what is your cylinder size?
-
I have a record mount res. Plenty of fluid.
Yea I'm thinking I should change out the orbital.
-
I believe 2.5"x8" or 2" same as what Smike just took off 571

@ 1.5 lock to lock your pump would need to do 13.5 GPM ! good luck with that....
-
Math is hard.
So what size should I be looking for?
-
Should say remote mount. Record is autocorrected nonsense.
-
im guessing you have a 3/8" line to it,no way thats refilling your pump fast enough,i like how smikes is like an extension of his pump with a 1 1/2" radiator hose, but gif is right isnt normal lock to lock 3 turns

use this
-
Its a 3/4" line. Only option for my pump. Its not a gm pump like everyone else uses.
-
9.7 or 11.3 range will need a pump 5 GPM
-
I will look at that tomorrow. Thanks Gif.
-
The higher number is more flow, right? I want a lower number.
-

yes higher number = need more flow = less turns lock to lock
-
I look and I have a 200cc orbital, thats way too much, so I am looking at a 100cc (6.1ci) or 125cc(7.6ci) to replace it prolly the 125cc is the best choice, thats what I ran on both the last buggies without issues.
-
i have one im not gonna use its a eaton 211-1007-001 i cant find much info on it myself
-
nm, found it ,looks like it might be a little smaller than your looking
211-1007 Char-Lynn. Hydraulic steering control unit, Eaton Char-Lynn (Charlynn) 6 Series, 4.5 in3 displacement, (4) 3/8"-16 mounting holes on 3-1/4" bolt circle, 12-tooth internal spline accepts steering column, non-load reacting, 4-8 gpm flow range, #8 SAE oring ports, Eaton Char-Lynn (Charlynn) 211-1007, 211-1007-001, 211-1007-002, 211-1007-003 or latest revision, replaces Baker 117959, Yale 131793404, Yale 501179501

the one i got for 572 off ebay for 115$ shipped new in PSC box with the 4 fittings is a 160cc/9.6ci
hope that works
-
4.5ci sounds small even for a 2" ram

mine is 6.1 c.i/rev. for 2.7 turns lock to lock with a 6" ram

Did you get your orbital from Jon on Hardline? If so, Seems like he should've spec'd out the correct one for you. Maybe it was hard to judge unknown Hyundai engine power steering pump psi?
-
Got some new bling for this guy.

Wheel spacers installed. Shocks have been "tuned"
-
Troys orbital works perfectly, 3 turns lock to lock.
Checked the part number on the one I took out, its 160cc. $225 if anyone here wants it.
-
Awesome, glad it worked out.idk if you used the fittings on it but I forgot to tell you that black one I beleive is a check valve if that matters at all
-
Hmm, I did use them, I should check that out.
-
Took this thing out for a test run at our land today. Changing the valving in the shock helped a ton, its smooth and floats along the bumps. It rides awesome. Topped out at 35mph full pedal to the floor. OD id not active so thats just 3rd gear.
Steering is good, cooling is good, brakes work good can lock up all 4 in the field. Still gets a little warm in the cab, but thats life in a buggy.
Flexed it out and it does not hit the tires anymore on the chassis.
She is ready for the weekend.
-
Motorhome needs a water heater replaced, have the new water heater, just need some fittings and it should be good. 2-hour job, I hope.
-
She is ready for the weekend.
Bring it to RC 13-15 !
-
Possible.
-
Fixed and ready for another fine adventure.
-
new end slide in?
-
Spline adjustment is all that was needed. ;D
It slips like it should now, no more problems. :fingerscrossed:
-
I need to limit that side a little, there are marks on the flanges, adding an internal spacer seems like the best solution.
-
Some burrs or deformation we couldn't see when it was greasy?

Yes. Exactly.

these Fin MTRs have to be 60lbs heavier than a 40 KRT on an H2
-
She did well this weekend.
Made it up
Trail 5 climb
Cv climb
Jotter right side.
Crawl daddy
21 red (much pucker factor on this trail)
I am overall happy with it. It needs some things.
Fuel pickup clunker inside cell. Runs out of fuel going up steep inclines.
Tranny leak fixed
Solid diff cover on front.
Over drive hooked up.
Tires did well. A little bigger would be nice but these work great at 6psi.
-
Needs new lower links.
-
Overdrive has been added. That took some wiring mastery to figure out. Schematics and a very large book.
12v power port added to charge my phone so I can use it as a Gps. Now to find an app.
I have a small amp and speakers. I should hook up some tunes next.
-
Needs new lower links.
updates??
-
Nothing so far. I have not looked into it.
-
Trans leak fixed.
Some rock lights added.
Let's go.

vodoo
-
Fluids changed and checked. Found a rear brake caller bracket has 1 bolt left in it. Fixed.
Waiting on front diff cover to finish up.

Changing to 4 link front. Chassis tubes are being moved. Left side is done. Driveshaft fixed.
-
4-link is in, chassis tubes moved. Just have to finish welding and gusseting.
I hope this cures the front end hop as well.
