Smike..
might need some help here...
finally got the XJ into the shop to do a preliminary DMV check for my salvage inspection Monday..
ends up the rear spring hangers are soft as hell...
there are some other issues being addressed by Scotty’s right now, but I wanted to know if I got you the jeep tomorrow or Friday would you be able to mend the soft steel...
pictures attached.. seems its accessible from under the rear seat...
Also have a winch bumper and winch... figured since it will be down there and all ;)
I can postpone the inspection.. but if it can be done...
Driver side.....

The Driver side is soft to the touch.. the passenger side is getting there...
-
A little Great Stuff and you'll be fine. :-\
-
anything can be done by m4 any time, how is the price on the box truck doing :)
-
planning on wheeling this weekend, so sooner it gets here the better. not much lined up in the shop.
If i had a trailer key i could drop an MJ and pick an XJ.....
-
Sorry I forgot to leave that w you last night. I'm going out tonight, and I'm fixing sloppy people's mistakes right now, but I'll try and drop it by in between.
-
no rush... delayed the appointment...
do it right once... NY DMV can be a pain in the ass...
box truck isnt my $$$$
im going to throw the bumper and the winch in the XJ tomorrow AM and check on status..
I think it should be done or close to...
needed motor mounts as well..
-
ya, it honestly at second glance and the growing list looks like a rush for Monday finish,
still at work bah!
-
motor mounts, window and general NYS inspection stuff Im having scotty's do.. just because its their job and im having them pick it apart. Even with a phone call I dont want the salvage inspector to have a NY reason not to pass this fucker..
-
and of course scottys didnt finish the work and my window still isnt replaced...
rack this up to another fuck you dealy...
-
XJ to do list: (Current)
Winch
Winch Bumper
Motor Mounts
OME SS
Rear Spring hanger fix
Can I drive this guy down Wednesday and swap it out for the MJ?
still looking for a rear end, but might be a few weeks...
-
ya.
i am trying to scoot out to buffalo at noon, but i will leave the MJ keys
-
might be right around then
-
going to try and get this done this AM/early PM..
still fighting this cold for over 10 days now...
just prescribed me the sizzurp, so im hanging with Mr. Obama on the couch today...
-
drop and swap made...
Smike.. when you get a chance LMK if you think these will be better or just have you build them.
http://synergysuspension.com/Synergy-Suspension-Jeep-XJ-Rear-Spring-Hanger-Bracket-p-20685.html
-
i installed those on chips tan XJ, pretty nice.
Ill have to look at the jeep first though to see how rotten it is
-
ok cool... im not against buying them if its all worth it...
MJ drives fucken awesome...
i dont even think it needs to be regeard... just need to swap speedo gear first
-
i have a few in the scrap pile if you want to go smaller or taller, let me know
Ill get the truck on the lift tomorrow night
-
i need a long nose 32...
should be black..
I have a bag in my tool box.. going to sift through that one soon.
-
Damn... Drugs really effecting my memory....
Dropped the XJ off bumper, mounts, SS all in truck... Forgot the massive 90lb winch box in my Jeep....
Hello more cough medicine...
-
pulled this kid into the shop last night late, very nice interior and pretty clean on the outside.
Cool jeep.
-
it was deff done right...
the guy I got it from is a fanatic about clean interior...
I ever like the way he cut the carpets... kinda the lazy way to fix the typical XJ leaks..
-
sits about 4" higher than mine does though lol both on 33"s
-
topsy turvy 2.0!!
-
is it really that much higher?
break out the tape...
from what I am told its the RE4.5" spring kit on the jeep
-
mine has a 3" kit, and a massive ARB bumper, not to mention pretty bald 33"s ;D
-
I should have left this guy alone. nothing around the rot is structural to the leave mounts and those are solid as are the unibody rails.
i punched out the passenger side and welded in a first piece, it will need about two more, and some seam sealer.
the other side isnt too bad.
nice jeep, i like how he cut the carpet out
-
I might drop the winch over @ south tomorrow with the Seam Sealer... whatever we have in stock...
glad to hear the rot wasn't so bad... but since it has to go through a real inspection id rather be safe than sorry...
I really want to get my wife out on a trail and this jeep will be more than adequate....
plus it will give me something fun to drive this winter...
-
bumper mounted,
looks like truck was hit in front passenger side. bent that back out, welded in a couple nuts, not sure how the bumper was intended to be mounted. looks good
Steering stabilizer and motor mounts done.
Motor mounts were a pain in the ass, who comes up with this shit. Have to remove the oil filter and oilfilter housing from the block to get the motor mount bolt out. Both were exploded and completely separated, so good find for fix.
no progress attempted on rot floors :)
-
this guy is done, other than leaky orings
did you see my txt arie? can you get those?
-
i dont think so... what O-rings?
-
saturday, 4:26 you should have a txt from me.
anyhow, i need the 3 orings in the oil filter housing. It was required to removed this housing to get the motor mount bolt out on the passenger side. i have taken it apart and cleaned it 3 times (a real pain) and it wont seal back up. has a slow drip at idle.
-
negative.. last one was friday night 9:50 about the winch...
-
ill check for the listing.. if not quadratec
-
ordered them...
we only had a listing for the main one and im sure i could have matched them up... but i dont need it ASAP..
-
its driveable, and probably fine, but it just has a little seap about a half drip every 10 seconds.
It is locked and out side, FYI.
probably a 30 min fix on the lift. annoying as hell, but i have it down.
-
Ill drop them off as soon as they come..
Need to get another salvage appointment
-
I welded a broken exhaust hanger back on also.
bumper looks good. Winch bolts are easy access.
-
Sweet thanks..
I figured it might be easy or hard..
I think I'm going to like rocking this rig..
Just need to balance and allign this guy..
-
not sure how the front mounts are intended to bolt up, i welded in a couple nuts into the unibody rail, and used some of the existing hardware / new grade 8 stuff.
Looked like the truck was hit in the front passenger, once i realized that and banged it back into shape everything lined up a lot better.
-
Cool..
Yeah it was hit.. Thus the different paint and salvage title.
Glas just a hammer un tweaked it..
-
any update on that oring? it should be about 1/8" cross section and ~2.5" diameter
-
O rings arrived... should be down at South in the AM.. that group is lazy with afternoon runs to the warehouse..
-
cool, ill get it in this weekend.
-
when is south open till on saturday? If i can get out of work ill shoot over and grab that oring
-
who knows... those fuckers are on my shit list..
-
this pig is done right?
salvage appointment now on 27th @ 2:30
-
just got home, it is truck 2 of 3 on the list tonight. should be easy to swap those orings in and fix the little oil leak. everything else was done last week.
-
sweet... thanks appreciate it.. ill prob pick it up with trailer Monday evening or Tuesday AM
-
done, oil leak fixed
-
i dont have my phone on my, did you decided on a pick up time for this guy today?
-
i got to see when i can get out there... I think either way its going to be after work... 5 or later @ night..
-
i thought you had a 2:30 meeting?
Ha, i might steel your trailer then to pick up a zj :)
either way, no problem
-
2:30 tuesday...
-
salvage appointment now on 27th @ 2:30
wow scared myself for a second...
deff tomorrow..
-
took 5 freaking min...
they didnt check a damn thing.. just the vin..
needless to say, passed.... title in 5-10 days...
new wheels ordered today..
-
Sweet
-
canceled the wheels...
figure i should put 1000 miles on it before i start throwing money at it...
I dont know what happened to me... but I actually had a rational thought last night..
inspection today.. waiting for title..
-
what did that feel like? haha
-
she had some creaks and rattles driving in the lot
-
yeah deff suspention creeks...
and I think the tires need balance and allignment..
-
new floor under rear seat..

Winch still in box...
-
o, and just to be clear the burn mark on the passenger side trim was already there right? i didnt even see it till i was 100% done and moved to the other side of the truck! after a moment of panic, i realized it was done by who ever welded in the sliders because it was no where near what i was doing, but close enough to make me think twice! i bet we could find that at the JY
if the paint doesnt stick well to M4 seam sealer, i can fix that later if we can find the right stuff with 5 minutes and a wire wheel. Everything i did was pretty cosmetic work, and the mounts were solid where they needed to be.
-
plated and insured for almost a week with no more than 2 miles on the clock....
DD duty tomorrow... finally driving this thing...
-
i got a replacement trim piece for this guy next time its at M4
-
sweet... if it clunks as bad as I think it might be back....
prob needs bushings all over....
-
wow.. forgot how floaty lifted XJ's are at speed..
456 gears and 33"s are awesome...
-
mine drives mint, just wont hold a battery
has a little vibe in the wheel at 45 (probably tires)
-
Mine drives fine as well aside from the fact that it drifts a bit to the right, but it's done that since I've had it.
-
steering box might need adjustment...
its deff floaty...
it can also be the heim track bar mount.... lets see how much I drive this thing before I invest in something different..
-
Smike's ram pull ended up being wasted control arm bushings. At rest it measured true but under load the from axle went out of alignment. May be worth a look if you feel like chasing it.
-
for a generally clean truck is a rusty crusty front suspention...
might be a spring time project if:
A. I actually drive the thing
B. Its not for sale by then
C. I dont get use to the problem
D. nothing more important comes up
-
stupid question but check tire pressure? felt like they had 8psi in them when i loaded it.
-
not stupid at all... I havet done anything on this other than put gas in the tank and turn the key
-
haha, ya check tire pressure- it was a trail rig- bet they are at trail pressure.
-
put some miles on this guy .....
Renix high idle issue has popped up.... anybody deal with this ever before I start out on my own trail..
-
was the tire pressure low?
sounds like a vac leak.
im still angry at this guys orings :)
-
never checked.. just driving..
will prob do on the way home today once they are warm...
I dont know if a vac leak would be sporatic... then again i dont know if i mentioned it...
at times it idles just fine.. more often than not.. other times it gets up there 2-3K
if it was a carb I would say throttle cable... but with this french FI system who the hell knows.. its deff electrical.. either connection or sensor
-
nice looking winch
so the list for this guy this time around
install winch
install new battery
Throw sensors at it?
passenger floor trim install
anything else?
-
did I get the sensors down with the rest of your stuff?
-
i have no stuff- just grabbed the ujoints.
did more stuff make it to south? i can pick up tomorrow, maybe with a fuel pump too :)
-
pulled this guy in tonight-
new battery installed.
winch eyed up, but noticed no provisions for fairlead- on hold
-
ill get it down there hell or high water..
been on the couch since sunday night with some stomach thing...
need to get into the office tomorrow hell or high water
-
Sending your parts and the XJ stuff down to South today...
-
winch bracket? or figure that out?
-
Everything I have seen has the alu fairlead mount to the winch frame...
I don’t know... very odd..
there is a bracket that came with the bumper, it’s for the license plate… it shouldn’t matter for that model winch..
-
(http://www.mikesoffroad.com/content/images/thumbs/0001249_superwinch_1695201_talon_95sr_9500_lb_winch_300.jpeg)
-
ya its the wrong housing on the winch, or they changed something
-
(http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/ee343/rejeep/100MEDIA95IMAG1181_zps04408b4b.jpg)
those arent mounting holes on the bottom?
-
ya those are the four holes that mount the winch on the bottom
there is nothing in the front or rear for the fair lead
-
hmm.. deff need a braket..
let me send down what I got @ home... maybe im being retarded...
-
deff being retarded... :o
I doubt they make license plate brackets out of plate steel..
On its way down to south with the rest of the crap..
-
haha, i thought it came with something heavy, i just couldn't remember.
-
winch and fair lead mounted
CPS, IACV, TPS changed
Burnt trim swapped (its close, not quite the same sun fade) :)
NICE WINCH!
I think thats it on this guy that i have.
-
thats it till Bill wants it for locker test....
NICE WINCH!
superwinch makes a nice product... smokin hot deal on them as well... ;)
-
Talked to Bill, he pulled another locker ahead of this one so it wont be for months till its needed- FYI
-
got it..
ill work on coming to grab it shortly then...
-
i started it today and drove it down the street and back to make sure she is good with the new battery and winch 8)
-
it really is a nice truck...
lucked out on that one BIG time..
