Title: Yeah it's definitely a project
Post by: mr.mindless on May 04, 2013, 12:54:31 PM
Picked him out. Titan, he shall be named.

Probably picking him up memorial day weekend at some point. Race vs Jeff's vs puppy balancing act sounds like a challenge!

Nice dog.

You go out of town a lot. Find a good kennel.

A kennel where you board you dog while you are out of town. Not a cage.

Still a cage, just with privilages...

That said, crate training is da-bomb!

Crated Delko for 6 months....  Not even, just till he was potty trained...  Hasn't been in one since... Some dogs love them..

Delko goes to "camp" three days a week and sleeps over when we leave town... Some lady's house with acres.....

Lots of scolding doesn't seem to have any effect. It's not something that's tolerated, but we haven't figured out a punishment that he gives a flying fuck aboot.

Pinning him, rolling him, holding his jaw shut while pinning him and holding eye contact is what seems to get the most whining and have the longest lasting effect but he's back to it in minutes. Worst when he's tired. Much worst in the last 2-3 days. Hopefully a phase that'll pass. Can't really pass quick enough for my taste. I'm borderline fed up especially since I'm spending time w him working and training and doing good stuff when I could have been, say, swapping a ps pump or finishing this (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/08/u7upega6.jpg)

Or finishing this
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/08/ybehy2yn.jpg)

Or workonh on selling this shit in here

He's got to be good to reinforce positively :)

After my whining above, I let him out and he and I have had a really good night.

I guess the pup school interview yesterday went well. Sounds like the trainer is open to not doing full Schutzhund but just the working and obedience portions (not the protection). That'd be good since neither Kim nor I are fully comfortable with owning a loaded gun with a mind of it's own and the responsibility and additional devotion to training that would entail.

Trainer thinks he's got great drive, and they did a scent drill and he NAILED it with zero wait or hesitation.

We found titan's litter through a coworker I Kim's who has two Shepherds, the older of which competes and the younger who is training. He's an army vet dog handler and his older dog Zeus was his working dog in the sandbox I guess. I've not met them yet, the younger female picks on Titan pretty badly but obeys when scolded. I guess he returned this by humping her leg and running away. Haha

That's been his bedroom for a bit over 2 weeks. He's never loose when we're out, either leashed in the kitchen or in that bedroom. I guess it's back to crate or nothing for a while longer.

I was saying last night that he was being almost good enough to be loose. I didn't knock on wood after.

This unit protected the female companion from an angry pitbull who was out loose this morning on their walk. The pit's house door was wide open, apparently it's been having issues latching right. Pit made a bee line for Titan and Kim when they got close to the house, the dogs got into it pretty good I guess. The pit followed them home and stayed on the stoop barking at the door after they got home and Kim got Titan inside. Kim and Titan are fine, Kim's got some bruises. She went out the other door and drove over there and beat on windows and doors and nobody came out. I chased the dog away, he was a growling meanie even without another dog there to egg him on.

Kim called the police and they showed up pretty quickly. They got someone at the other house who was very apologetic and told him about the door latching issue. Getting fixed today... Apparently the other dog has some scratches on him. Titan did great work. I'm really proud of him today.

Title: Re: Yeah it's definitely a project
Post by: jaysenodell on December 30, 2013, 11:03:27 AM
As a person with 2 pitbulls, I understand both sides. If one of my dogs were to do something like that I would understand it being shot. It's my job to keep my dog under control. Uncontrolled dogs are bad no matter what type of dog they are (there is a shepherd in the neighborhood that terrorizes everyone the same way the pit did in this case).

Nick, as much as you are being sarcastic, there is much truth in that saying. Although I would change the last word to "managed".

No leaks. Two valves shut off fine (water in and boiler out), handle broke on one (boiler in). Haven't tried to drain that leg yet, not sure which of the three it is. Hopefully that valve is good too.

Kinked it, didn't break it. Copper is soft.

Hopefully can just strip the radiator plates off that section, cut it, splice it, sweat it.

This had best be the picture of his lifetime.

do you really want him and another dog crashing around the houses? it would go from eating to crushing.
more training and toys would be my best recommendation..

we (Kim...) train the shit out of him.... I was thinking about whether he could have had all his toys hidden last night when he decided to go for the remote or not... He had no toys in reach when he's done most of the rest of his destruction.

Came home to a loose and bloody overheated puppy. Got his collar caught in the crate and destroyed the crate. Chewed on the baseboard heat more after he got out and holed it; holed his muzzle too. Caught one eye on something. Emergency vet said it was /probably/ fine. Gonna save a grand and hopefully not cost an eye, and call his regular vet in the AM. He had some fur stuffed in that eye to really irritate it. I got that out. Iris looks fine. Pupil reactive and round. Just swollen around the eye.

UUGH

And he's really been SO GOOD! I don't blame him for panicked destruction with a caught collar though. This just really sucks :(

Uncertain it's not a bear.

steriod eye drops had the swelling down to 0 in 24hr. Redness is almost gone.

Kim's cat has made him bleed twice since. She doesn't put up with him AT ALL and he doesn't care; still goes after her. Jerk.

Puppy Houdini sometime before I got home for lunch. No damage to crate door at all. Plastic crate (troy's old one) Went through half a garbage can. Nothing else. No injuries.

His way of telling us he's ready to be free?? Ummmmm

So replacement large wire crate was delivered weds morning. Weds night he had his cone on in the crate and got out. was NUTS about his cone.

Cone has been off since (he seems all healed up; no new injuries getting out and not crate damage to speak of), and he's been out almost 100% since. Zero issues. He's been really good. Crated him during dinner last night withthe crate covered, no issues. Need to be sure he can still be okay with crating for popup and for boarding. So far so good.

He didn't help w the repair...

No leaks. Airout thing seemed to do its thing. No pump cavitation. Air noises quit on their own. System pressure did what it should. Fast fill valve did what it should. Easy!

No issues to speak of since The Great Escape. He's been out during the day at my house and crated at night. Crated at Kim's. No escape issues either. Just a good puppy!

We had a great dane. 40lbs of food lasted just over a week. He digestive issues for a week. We used that week to explain to my son (when he was very young) what the phrase "shit storm" meant. To this day he does not use that phrase lightly.
