You should talk to your chassis builder as well. 9 hours to get the motor and trans out is a little annoying. :)

A lot annoying

But my fault for thinking a Craigslist tranny would be "ok".

My junk yard search was a good one.
I scored a Ford Super Duty front driveshaft and a front shaft from a late 80's blazer.

The Ford shaft is a great source for 1 ton parts.

First, the CV is a true Spicer 1350.  Next the Slip yoke is also a 1350 with a 1.5" 16 spline.

For my use I need to mod the flange to mate to the stock 241 output flange.

The R3 GM is on the right.

The Ford center hole is only 2".    So I had to open it up to the GM 3.125"

The blazer front shaft is a 1/2 ton CV 1310. The drive shaft I broke uses this style.

On my driveshaft the slip yoke is a Ford 1350  with a 1.5" 16 spline and uses 1/4" wall tube.

I rebuilt this shaft to have as a spare.   This time I used Spicer 1310 non greasable u-joints.
I could see obvious break points at the grease fittings on the joints that blew apart.

I know it will hold up to a lot of abuse, however I wont trust this shaft for crazy heavy use as I have learned...
