Started in on this project to get an idea of what i have to work with.
Put a charger on the van battery over night. Started right up today and drove it around. Tranny seems to shift good.
Typical exhaust manifold leak.. Front brake lines shot.
Should make for a good driveline.
Put the 52 in the shop and got the bed and cab off the chassis. Chassis is in great shape, no rot.
I noticed the tranny looked familiar. SM420

-
All relevant parts pulled and piled in the shop.
Chassis and engine sold and gone.
The SM420 is for sale.
Next is to figure out how to pull the van body off
-
21mm bolts out, cut the core and pick it off, roll forward and out!
-
Was more work than i wanted.
Because of the height of the van body i could not lift it off with the gantry crane in one shot.

SM420 sold and gone.
Saved a bunch of sheet steel from the van body to be used for patch panel work.
Rest of the van sold to scrappers... they spent two days cutting it up to get it off my trailer and in the back of their trucks.
Probably spent more on gas and sawzall blades....

ditching the van frame?
i just cant get into the low ridder thing- it just doesnt work for me. i like the farm truck function look
-
If you can get past the reduced utility, it gets more fun. I like it!
-
looks like a nice complete shell though. if you get bored let me know ill pick it up :)

Not yet.
I think I will be more motivated when the weather turns.
papers?
-
i think you told me what you paid for this so thats not helping
7-800 take it? not interested in the wheels
-
i guess ill take over this thread 8)
should be another fun build!
-
I wasn't feeling it on this one. have fun with it.
-
scrap up a bit, 165/GT
shell and left over bits from van tear down yeilded 2380 lbs with a 40lb deduction for "wood" bulkhead in van. new guy at lot, seemed picky and worried he would loose his job if he missed something lol
175$ back!
-
most of the chassis prepped for the 52 shell
motor and harness trimmed down.
test fired and good motor good trans.
cats removal and exhaust gaskets next. I think im going to throw a fuel pump at it, looks sketchy and vent tube cracked off.
-
95% of the parts for this build ordered and on the way!
-
started throwing steel at this thing
-
day two of putting a front clip on :o
almost. almost there.
confirms my usual standards of never buy a truck not together. its actually a lot of work haha.
but didnt have any tear down work so im doing doing ok on this one.
summit and LMC orders placed and starting to trikkle in- should have 99% of materials in by this week.
-
bad metal all replaced, front clip bolted up
-
more
-
putting that manual forklift to good use!
-
love that thing. saves time and your back.
-
cab skirts by doors metal added, forward cab mount channels replaced. bed wheeled over and measurements taken. wheel base is some where around 136" once I bang back the bow in the front bulkhead of the bed. 3/4 ton Van wheel base is 135" so should work out mint.
-
fuel pump module changed out
started looking at exhaust deletes
-
exhaust finished and cab fit to frame tonight. moved back out of way for jeeps this weekend.
-
body mounted
steering done
brake petal / MC / Hydroboost mounted with fire wall stiffner plate
new hood hinges mocket up
-
new lights and hood emblems in
-
95% wired and fired
-
box fit up and down a few times.
ended up cheating the rear axle back 1.5" with some new leaf spring perch center bolt holes to fit the wheel wells better. looking mint
needs box mount, side steps mountedm rear bumper and hitch, interior bits, doors on, glasss.
exhaust sounds mint. lot drives.
-
4 tires soaped and leaky valve stems replaced, so 3.5 flat tires should be a think of past now.
stared at a bed mount plan and rear bumper. just need to execute.
-
6 box mounts fabricated, bolted down. 2 more will tie into rear bumper/frame extension.
next up-
sidestep mounts
rear bumper / hitch / lights
door mounting
interior bits
-
first drive down the block to Nicks and back tonight.
Exhaust is kinda dumb bah.
-
rear bumper fab'd with hitch and tail lights yesterday.
-
headliner got done a few days ago, front and rear glass.
slung the doors tonight.
-
doors finally finished up. all new glass, new felt, and cranks. that was a lot of work!
-
floor in
truck finished.
-
Came out perfect! Love the original bed.

Agreed
-
I looked at the first few pics and compared to the completed pics. Looks like the orange marker lights under headlights were magnetic or something? Cuz I dont see a hole for these in the completed pics.
-
they were just reflectors, were screwed on with little sheet metal screws that i just cut and ground smooth carefully or i have had other trucks that people stuck reflectors on with sticky tape
-
listed for sale, parked in cold storage till spring or sale.

If you have M18 batteries, I have this and absolutely love it. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-18-Volt-1250-Lumens-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Search-Light-Tool-Only-2354-20/300157991
I also have M18 light towers, but not that portable.
-
market place morons still going strong. supposed first actual person to come view tomorrow after dozen phone conversations, 40+ market place conversations, and close to 8K views of add.
also, latest tonight:
What is that, looks like fiberboard in front of the radiator where the wiring harness is mounted to. Otherwise did not, the truck has a nice body! Due to tires rub against offenders and what type of engine is in there? Where's the gas tank at since I see the hole is in the Where the inlet is supposed to be? Is it a 2 Wheel Dr. or a four-wheel-drive? Can it be a daily driver? Only you would know I guess since you put together. What needs to be finished on besides a good paint job? Maybe I should read what you wrote about it before I ask all these questions. Sorry for the questions looking for your response anyway.
my god, learn words and learn reading.
facepalm

-
nice! agreed on this being a cool one. love those longbeds.
-
Nice job on this truck. One of my favs.
-
well that was quick when the guys wife finds out and he has to bail. good way to loose half an 800$ deposit lol
morons
-
ouch.. half? you are nice
-
He suggested it, i was fine honestly with giving it all back since i had done zero effort. if i had loaded it or even planned the delivery yet i would have thought more.
ill take 2 phone calls and and email for 400$ as a win. Funds are inbetween papal and may bank so waiting a few days for eveything to clear before i send anything back- whole deal and conversations seemed 10% scam ish but i guess he was legit and wife is no good
-
lol
-
lets try this again, paid in full today- delivering to greece tomorrow
-
Wow
-
yup. some good vans up right now too, might grab another on the way home.
I guess i should make the painful call to order 2 flatbeds of steel worth next week.
-
gone!
-
I want to do a flatbed if you want to talk before your next steel run
-
I was just informed by my laser cutter that steel prices are up something like 50% in the last week.
-
owner reached out said he is very happy with the truck and had no problems registering it, been driving it all over.
all good.
-
why do people have to wreck my trucks with clap trap. i caught a post on FB the owner might sell and inquired. saw the laundry list of changes made in my opinion negative. boo
almost thought it be fun to pick back up for same price with clean paper and new tires..... but then saw the list of hacks bah! waiting on some pics meh
-
Thread pics broken. I forget which one this was. Short ownership.
-
lets put dodge bucket seats and a gaudy center console and wheel into a 52 chevy. ugh.
-
this guy.
-
Oh those seats are a crime. And that console alongside patina? Barf. At least the console is undoable and screwing up the finish isn’t.
-
this unit up for sale by owner (dont think its listed) 8k
he put new tires, got clean paperwork, did the interior changes, looks like maybe added cab lights also
can forward info if anyones interested.
id scoop it back but too much changed for my liking.

ya i saw it re listed again after it was sold from the guy that bought it from me for 8500. he offered it back to me for 8K, i would have taken it if he didnt shit it up so bad with clap trap. clean papers and new tires.
looks in this listing other that the horrible seats, wheel, center consol, cab lights, garbage in bed the first guy added, the vortec cover is now removed. weird.
