picked this guy up tonight and drug on to a trailer
was no start. smoking wires when i hooked battery up.
cut all non oem wires out (impressive amount)
driver door un stuck
trash emptied
fired right up, 123k on it!
need to make a J&J list
some flat tin work on rockers doesnt look bad
front glass broke sadly
needs deep cleaning inside and out
tires
top is shot
front drive shaft
otherwise, good unit.
-
also note, this hasent moved since i was paid to put a transfer case in it a month or two back..... sale price wasnt much more than that bill....
-
front tube fenders Hooke
rear tube fenders smitty built
3/16 moto built rockers
3/16 moto built rear corner wrap arounds
thats about 1500$ in bolt ons that should pretty much reskin the jeep
need to run numbers and evaluated ROI
-
good 3 hours of pillage today. only 3 tjs and 3yjs in the yard. no XJs, sad face.
didn't have the ambition to tackle the burb and found the mid seat isnt what i want. i should grab some door cards and belts though. that burb interior is mint. picked up a set of complete TJ hard doors for Matt to sell also. 100$ bill got me todays plunder. winning. most all installed on the LJ tonight.
my list is ambitious:
TJ:
Gas cap
Front drive shaft
Rear lift Shocks
Front tubular lca
Front bumper
Windsheild/glass
Driver hard door mirror
Driver hard door inside handles
Both outside hard door handles
Rear view mirror
Center consol plastic
Shifter knob Trans
Center dash trim piece plastics
Radio
Hood latches
Driver seat belt assembly
Spare tire mount
Front marker lights
Front marker light harnesses
Tailgate latch cover
Coolant tank cap
Headlight bucket pass side plastics
tailgate
rear bumper ends
rear bumper
carpets grey
broken hard TJ top to make LJ half cab?
90s burb
middle seat
belts
door cards
carpet
-
rear corners and sliders on the way to start thanks to Joe's full hydro install labor
hopefully that pair of green TJ doors from the yard to Matt will pay for some front tube fenders and we will be rolling!
-
preped and rusty primered all rust areas. 95%will be removed or covered with armor
pulled all carpet and roll bar padding.
cut roll bar
front broken glass removed tonight
i think its going to look great like a truck :)
-
probably should have just called a glass guy but i kinda want to learn this process
remove a glass pane from yard, clean it. that saves me 160$ and was basically free.
remove broken glass from jeep, clean frame.
not sure if inner gasket is re usable, but i cut it in a few places meh.
need new inner and new outer gasket, urethane sealant?, possibly primer?
each gaskets and a tube of sealant is 25$ each,
i guess it be 300$ to call a glass guy? i put in a quote request for ray sands to install used pane with new seals, see what they come back at. if its like 150$ or less i probably go that route
-
Have them do it for you, watch and take notes
-
i could just got to home depot and get a 9$ tube of roof and window sealant, use the old inner and outer seals, and get what i get on the cheap lol
-
rear shocks, front brakes and some axle seals on the way from Rockauto. they had the missing hood catch piece for 10$ too!
-
I'm a little jealous of this...
always liked this lj and lj's in general
-
moved tonight, new radio installed doesn't power up, sad face
harness had a gazillion crimp splices so not supersizing.
-
day 3 on this
front pads and rotors changed
swapped out a stuck front passenger caliper
replaced a missing lift kit lower control arm
added wheel spacers, mustang GT wheels, fresh 35" Maxxis SCR tires
-
lowes trip yielded a 10oz tube of goo that says its adhesive for many things including glass and metal, so for 9$ i gave it a wherl and stuck the old glass seals back in and glued it in.
tips on internet: cut caulk tip in a "V" and cut a 1/4"x1/4"x1" chunk of rad hose rubber and place at bottom of channel to help glass center and not sag to bottom while drying. i guess the idea is to have the pane relaxed, centered, and not touching anything hard to keep it in one piece.
bam, 9$ fix
-
Nice work
-
the other complaint on the internet was the seals available to normal folk do not have adhesive on them so it was reported very difficult to get them to stick to the glass or the pinch seam before applying sealant and placing.
i noticed both my used seals had sticky flexible goo on them, so that's what led me to try to re use them they stuck nicely, i just used some masking tape to hold them and stretch it a bit on the bottom (there was a 1" gap in seal on old install). really there is only one small spot i got into the inner seal with a blade, but its hard to tell, outside seal looks mint.
-
sealant was still wet today. label says paintable in 1 hour, full cure in 7-14 days :o
so i guess thats going to sit at the other end of the shop for a bit while all the parts i ordered show up next week!
-
more parts aquired today from J&J
Hard top, visor, petal pads, dash bezel pieces
tube fenders and corners/rockers should be in next week.
spendy color match paint and clear came in this morning. prepped, painted, cleared all exposed spots. looks pretty good but def some amateur hour spots... way better than it was!
-
hard top
-
front fenders came in today so put those on.
notched rear of hartop so i could slide it forward and start making some measurments / mock up some cut lines.
i dont know- it kinda looks cool the way it is. almost like how a ZJ looks when you back half it, or if you bobbed and extended cab JT 4 door truck or something lol
Im going to sit on it and wait till the rear corners, rear fenders, and sliders are on before i go any further with choping the hard top. im all for cool / different with zero work.
-
correct length rear rancho shocks installed and a fresh set of lug nuts today also.
-
Not a fan. Needs to be Scrambler-esque for me.
-
stared at it more today
Chip, Erik, and I all agree- we dont hate it.
im all for cool and different with way less work.
still waiting on more parts to show up before i commit to a fiberglass project.
rear tube fenders showed up today
truck freight says next week tuesday for corners and sliders.
have a line on front and rear fab bumpers to grab in Elmira on the way to PA thursday afternoon.
-
truck freight delayed till tomorrow now
2 rounds of carpet scrub down and vacuum done on seats, its going to be a long road on that project lol
-
freight maybe tomorrow for sliders and corners
removed both bumpers this afternoon
picked up two fab'd bumpers from PA this weekend
Front mounted. snapped bolts in rear so needs some wizardry in the back to bolt up.
-
didnt kill a battery after sitting for a week, so thats cool.
-
starting to look less like a shit box
im thinking i might scuff and shoot black the OEM flares, since the tube fenders i got dont fit at all with the sliders and corners, leaving ugly gaps.
other option is to make a full side piece of 3/16" armor that transitions from the corners to sliders. which could be an option and i have the material in house.
-
Looks unique with the top like that. I assume you'll make a tonneau cover from the rear glass to door? That would finish it nicely.
-
that or just make a removable bulk head the hatch latches too and keep it was an open short bed
-
every time I see this topic title, I think it's getting an LS swap
-
left rear axle backing plate rusted and 50% gone. ebrake stuff all gone that side.....
250$ for a pair of dorman backing plates? F me
-
mopar PN discontinued also
looks like they cross with liberties till 07, so there are a bunch of those at J&J
bah
-
Bah humbug
-
found on amazon for 220, bah ordered. along with the missing ebrake lever kit for one side.
-
rear axle remain finished up. back to driving.
now to O2 codes and Emergency brake buzer next.
probably a muffler
floor clean out / floor pan work
fluid film
then ready for plates.
-
insured, DMV appointment tomorrow 1:45 sure
-
noted, 3.73 gears.
-
It’s so nice being close to canandaigua dmv. Walk in and wait 10 min at most. Usually zero.
-
i was able to make an "appointment" tonight for tomorrow in Henrietta, so i dont think its too bad. im betting more like 30-40 min though once i get there.
-
CT DMV is appointment only now. Last couple times I've gone I was in and out in ten minutes. However... I had to go 2+ weeks out to get an appointment which is not always ideal. Not sure what you do if you have to urgently do something like put a car on the road so you can go to work or whatever.
-
11 minutes door to door today at henrietta DMV.
i dont know what stars aligned but i didnt have to go through the general line (had all my forms filled out) and got a ticket right away, second beep was my number. 25 people in general line and at least 25 people sitting waiting.
no idea how that works.
put about a 15mile trip on this unit, over all pretty good. clutch feels kinda at its top of engagement so im betting thats 123K original. acceptable road manners for 35" tires. something up with headlights, and ebrake alarm is stuck on. otherwise continuous dog hair coming from all places is most annoying part. need more scrubbing and cleaning.
-
Ebrake? Or general “Brake” light?
If one of the brake circuits lost fluid pressure and the pedal was pushed, it can cause the shuttle to move out of position and light the warning.
http://www.fingerlakes4x4.org/modules/smf/index.php?topic=3272.0
-
might be that, ill have to investigate. but first start this morning all was good. pulled ebrake, red "BRAKE" light on. let ebrake go light off. started the jeep later in the day and back to red "BRAKE" light on and beeping. same for ride home.
need a couple more cans of 409 foaming carpet scrub for floor and seats.
patched up PO holes in tub for rear shock bolts
im thinking i should check trans fluid, as thats the last one i havent serviced.
put an offer in on a front drive shaft Ebay, see where that goes.
more parts should be here tomorrow.
horn in op / missing
inspection list
horn
headlights hi / low
bank2sensor2 O2 dead / code
get monitors to set
-
looks like these things are going for 12-15k in non shitbox condition. should be good reseal next spring.
-
pulled cross member today to gain access to exhaust and O2 wiring i could not reach.
found O2 wiring had 2 broken wires, CAT was broken loose right at weld.
hard top struts replace
welded up cat
installed new muffler, re welded tail pipe and broken hanger
repaired o2 wiring, scanner shows good voltage now
a few R/Rs of head light plugs seems to have fixed hi/low but one light is older and dimmer. probably order 2 new lights and paste up the
connectors with e goo
chased and diagnosed entire horn system- all good except where the wheel switch pulls ground from- there is no ground on the wheel hub. I think its a clock spring issue, as the wheel hub is not grounded where the horn switch pulls ground from to make horn signal.
-
new clock spring is 190$ so either pull one from yard or its getting an AUX horn switch on dash.
-
I checked Rock to see if there was a Ram or Dakota cross in case I might have something on the shelf, it's specific to 04-06 Wranglers only. F that
-
yup, crazy how many specific changes were just for the 04-06 jeeps
-
external horn switch installed
2 new headlights
trans oil change (old fluid a hair low but looked great)
engine oil and filter change
need two new head light sockets, still have dim passenger light
CEL went off with restart after o2 work wheeo!
-
headlight socket replaced, all good
new serp belt installed
entire chassis and under body black fluid film'd
center console from J&J swapped with original lock, installed
rubber floors cut and installed
back deck lid fit and painted
ready to drive a bit and book and inspection, all lights off.
misplaced my OBD reader, need to check monitor status.
-
CEL popped last night- boo. read as same bank 2 sensor 2 code that went away on its own after fixing the harness. i have a new sensor, to change next i guess?
htr blower motor runs all speeds as it should but blows 95% cold air. just a tisk of warm if anything
red blinking brake light with audible ding is intermittent and annoying.
-
havent looked at this again yet
ordered a winch and front drive shaft for it yesterday.
-
clean title came for this and has been sitting in my mail box for a few days, that was quick!
-
listed on the old face space for 13500, see if anyone wants it bad ::)
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/691086352430698/
-
With CEL on I’ll be shocked. Good market test.
-
front drive shaft installed
new transmission mount installed
ebrake adjusted
4 pins on bank2sensor2 O2 twisted 30degrees and plug slamed back together, code still off for now we will see
cleaned brake sensor connection plug and sensor, fixed "BRAKE" light and constant dings so far!
-
mark keeps tagging me in TJ half cabs in Georgia for sale find one in NY or PA, maybe ill consider it lol
-
-
like this? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1693240807770802/?hoisted=false&ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A7802fd95-469f-4fa7-8fb5-4c4e59cd1dd6
-
yes, thats the one. i guess a fair price but not enough fair id jump on even if local
-
bah. spent a fair amount of time on this. P0161 still comes on after a few drive cycles.
verified wire colors correct going to bank 2 downstream
new o2 sensor
htr wires from harness have voltage on start up.
htr duty command looks reasonable to the problem O2 compared to the other 3 when running.
O2 output looks resonable to the other 3 when running.
hoping the PCM isnt messed up from wire harness damage and months/years of driving before i fixed it
lost where to go
-
Any chance of intermittent signal due to wiring repair? Can you record/ log ?
Agreed, lost. That’s weird.
-
doubtfull soldered and heatshrinked looks fine but it is like right above top of trans burried in tunnel
i twisted all 4 pins 45degrees and jammed the connector together and staring at the data it looks fine live.
not really sure how to log data with my Snap-on Solus Ultra im sure it does
-
a few complaints about using only NTK OEM sensors- looks like i sourced an amazon no name same PN. whats another 50$ to throw at it.
i measured the HTR resistance at 4-5ohms. seems resonable but cant find a number on line other than generic 10-20ohms for an 02 htr.
i guess i plan to trace out wires from plug to PCM today, and check for ground shorts?
-
seems reasonable. and see if you can figure out long term logging to see if it ever gets a bad reading that you can catch that might show an intermittent short/open. seems likely in this case it wouldn't even necessarily be at the repaired portion of the harness but maybe somewhere else up/down stream.
good luck
-
got PCM pinouts
pulled o2 harness plug up to engine bay where accesable to probe
everything appears as it should.
nothing cross talks to anything on the pcm or ground where it shouldnt.
going to try a new 02, then its deemed a PCM issuee after that doesnt work.
-
so still this thing is usless with O2 heater driver issues
found this not sure actually what its doing but might be worth a try
https://www.tsbsearch.com/Jeep/25-001-07
-
pulled in from winter storage.
performed HTR redyness TSB 25-001-07
data shows Sensor 2 bank 2 HTR duty pegged to 100% but HTR not drawing power. internal PCM fault.
wiring pined out and double checked all good.
took HTR power from bank one (working) and used in parallel control power to fire a relay to supply power to bank2 2ensor. added a 5th sensor to old bank 2 power wires (originally with out this and additional new code developed)
cleared all and drove 2 drive cycles, no lights yet. time will tell.
freaking signals, hazzards, horn not working any more randomly WTF
-
2005 4.0 manual PCM found for 215$ that i need to decided quickly to pull trigger on or not. its a "wranglerfix" PCM and not sure HP tuners can change vin.
-
electrical gremlins suck.
did you price check what SIIA or SIAA or whoever repaired the box truck's Cummins N14 ECU for relatively cheap?
S.I.A. Electronics
https://siaelec.com
-
looks like $130 flat rate repair for Jeep ECUs. hopefully nothing weird with the 2006
-
thanks, i sent them and email request, will see what they say.
one forum said there are a few connections that can be reflowed soldier if you open up the PCM. i might try that also.
also dawned in me, i could just put the vin into the green truck and take it to get inspected down the road with the reg for the jeep lol
-
cut up a hard top to make a half cap today.
i bet with some plywood, glue filler i could do a half way decent job and finish it.
plan is to change it up and make it more attractive for resale. looks pretty cool
-
So Scrambler style single cab? Sounds good.
-
ya truck style
grabbed some ply wood today and started on it.
first gluing drying up tonight.
going to try and grab a sliding rear window out of like a Ranger for it.
should be mild hack but turn out pretty good with some fill work and paint.
-
forgot to mention. the black hard top im cutting up was a free market place find. broken back window and one crack i just glued you cant see now.
still have the tan hardtop thats mint, and probably worth 4-600$ (was a JandJ pull for 150$)
-
4 layers glued up today and 80% of the shaping done. should be ready for some filler and paint soon.
-
80 grit body work and first shot of black today. will be bed lined after rear window sourced.
-
Turned out pretty good.
-
May I offer an alternative?
No rear window, but put in a rearview LCD screen.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Camera-Vision-Screen-Recording/dp/B0CJF7977S/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=SW64TL1YV31Z&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.cv4240lVeS0L04pT_CpjWweETkrqKGP2bhaf2YHGiicdK6I5jDh8aq96ANBI263D-g-CH4sFtAaXRQNEAo8k07VySjLXawxSImijbQJPddOlNDm0aZ3iI6Gae3YBY6xOXEWhMEc-5LEquU7hMIQKt9Z49JlGKCT2Gf73za6G5BwGjFzNMmAjxceCkpKgYq2aok0IlNXeAZaPs8VOA0n71xTKB-T_kQlMd2xXj9FhVoo.A_NYRoxZRXNTl38RCOZ3t_vvqSAWiJ8SP-bRy-81xwo&dib_tag=se&keywords=lcd+mirror+rear&qid=1713374914&sprefix=lcd+mirror+rear%2Caps%2C96&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
(thats one hell of a link)
I have similar to this in our work ford transit that has rear windows covered with vinyl. It's fantastic.
-
thats cool but i think i like the window look.
picked up a truck cap window from the junkyard this morning and just finished bedliner and window install.
turned out pretty sweet i think,.
-
gets offer to buy hard top only
-
as expected lots of questions about frame condition.
needle scaled and wire wheeled entire frame and underbody this morning. add pictures updated.
-
i should start collecting broken TJ hard tops to make a few half cabs and sell them for 15-1800$ really not that much work, about 100$ in materials
pleanty of truck toppers at j&j to steal bolt in windows lol
-
deal pending for saturday pickup from PA buyer.
we will see if they show up....
