started on this after i tore down and prepped a 2nd escalade chassis
should be mostly Kansas parts and pretty solid build.
-
loving this thing. looking good.
-
box and ride height set, looks great.
picked up a pair of bumpers off market place today local for it also.
-
chassis fab completed.
needle scaled and then wire wheeled
black chassis coat
-
cab fenders grill preped and primed
i hate body work and paint.
-
shot the jams and dash today so i could continue on with assembly.
the green i picked is not the green on the label lol its way more lime green instead of dark green. not quite torque locker green but close lol
FML
-
doors and hood blocked and primed today also.
rest of exhaust and brake parts should be here tomorrow but need to jump back to other work in shop.
-
looking nice.
-
mixed in some black to tone down the lime green! much better.
-
Good call!
-
steering, brake, exhaust systems complete.
started on wiring today and hung a battery.
one more day of work it should be moving itself.
back to jeeps.
-
Seems from here like you really flew on this one.
-
i budjet about 120 hours labor for price point on average with these things. i spent a little more time on body and prep than i like to with paint garbage.
i bet i could punch one out in 3 weeks if i stuck to it and didnt have other work flowing in and out of the shop.
like another JT full gear/elocker/full front truss job today started.
-
drove to the other side of the shop for first time today.
rad doesnt fit, made this one too low. need to get another shorter one.
-
fancy gages ordered for this one. should be fun. not sure how mounting a GPS antenna that can see the sky is going to go, but should be fun.
motor sounds a little tappy now that it has exhaust on it. didnt catch that when i first test fired it with no headers- bah. hopefully that goes away with an oil change and more run time once it has coolant in it.
-
3rd radiator ordered. lets try this again lol
havent gotten much done on this really.
-
3rd rad looks like a fit. picked up the needed rear fenders.
hoping to plumb cooling and get the motor running longer than 30secs to eval if its pooched or not. have another lq9 sitting in another chassis with a blown trans but good motor that i did drive on to trailer and got to hear better.
-
or i have the big camshaft 5.3 still sitting downstairs :)
that might be too much for jody though if she buys it (stalking me on it)
-
oil had a bunch of water in it. im thinking it got wet from sitting with the intake off so long after the fire.
drained, filled with cleanish used oil, ran, drained
changed filter, 1qt lucas, 5quarts 20W50 she is quiet as a kitten now!
hopefully water says out of oil, and should be good to go!
-
Another LS for the win! Bulletproof! 8)
-
ya i was getting a little discouraged with this thing and quit working on it a few weeks after that.
got doors hung and fit today. hood next and then it should be almost finish color paint time.
some wiring, running boards, bed work, bumpers.
should go quick. nice it drives in the shop though now with out sounding like a snare drum.
-
cant freaking believe i just started this up to move back to the lift bay and its making the same top end knock noise.
it was completely silent for like 5 or 6 starts and moves between showing chip and matt this week after i did the flush and oil change.
fawk me. cant decided if dip stick is slightly high and milky or not. it does look about 1/2" higher. i guess i will let it sit and see if water drains off the bottom next week after the race.
not sure its worth 2 head gaskets or not, i guess at least its easy access and only gaskets and oil change away again. i cant think of anything else that would turn noise back on other than the oil went to shit after.
-
put 17psi on cooling system to see if it pumps more into oil
-
I would do another cheap "oil flush" maybe some sea foam. then run Royal Purple 31250 HPS Street Synthetic Motor Oil 20W50
-
flushing and fancy oil wont fix adding water to the oil pan in 2-3min if run time.
head gaskets are about the cost of the oil and lucas i already put in it,
id like to avoid pulling the cab, so ill probably struggle around changing the head gaskets, and then when that doesnt work pull the cab to swap the motor.
bah
-
update after sitting 5-6 days with 17psi on cooling system cold.
read 13psi
drained a sample off bottom of pan no water. so im not going to do head gaskets yet.
also, it was quiet again today no noise.
im moving forward with finishing the truck as it.
-
bah need to stop dragging feet on this, clean transferable paper came for it today.
-
box stripped down, repairs made and primed
rear fenders repairs made and primed
some gage work done. probably be shooting some color tomorrow or sat
-
paint done for the most part
on to trim and glass
need one last LMC order for some details
then on to bumpers, side stops, finish wiring ect
-
today most of wiring finished, lumber for bed cut to fit.
-
finished up the bed today.
stripped the remaining parts, some metal work, and shot with primer
(running boards, lower bed skirts, door access panels.
-
decided to end procrastination on oil pressure issue.
front of motor torn down, front IFS dropped, oil pan and timing cover pulled.
pulled the timing set and changed the cam plate
HV Oil pump, pickup oring and gaskets will be here tomorrow to wrap up.
fuel filler neck, vent, flush mount fill complete
front signals, headlights, OBD connector, truck 100% wired.
LMC order should be here tomorrow also with rest of door glass parts and some other odds and ends to complete the interior.
-
bah, still sitting on the lift waiting for an oil pump. amazon failed me, no tracking available.
-
put .090" under the spring in the oil pump relief and slammed it back together this moring (parts diddnt show up)
cold idle / rev went from 3-5/15 to 15/45 so thats a definat improvement.
going to think on it, but probably order a Meling 355 thats higher flow and pressure and do the job again now that i know its not really that bad and can be done in the truck.
runing boards and front bumper fab work done.
waiting on some door trim from ebay then i can shoot the last bit of color on remaining body parts.
seat and door glass up next, interior.
-
seats in today! gas petal mounted (finally)
first rip down the road! need to get ride height back up a bit, or get a smaller tire, front rubs a little
short trip, forgot to hook up trans cooler and e fan. but other wise good!
more odds and final touches should be ready to list or store for winter.
not my favorite but almost!
-
finished last of green parts to warp up doors
window glass prepped when paint hardens up
ordered new torsion keys and rear springs to adjust raise height 1" from the current 4" lowering kit.
-
front of motor torn down again and installed a High Volume oil pump (18% increase in flow, 10% increase in max relief pressure)
its better but still not great, i guess thats where its staying till the motor locks up or glitters itself.
drove down the road and got a sticker
construction traffic blocked me from getting back down my street so i hit DG to walk around for a minute.
reaturned to a crank but no start, like it was out of fuel. checked fueses all good and had pressure at rail.
cut back across rear lot (walked 2min home) and grabbed the KB3 already with a trailer hooked it it, winched on, brought home.
started fine on trailer at home? weird. no cause.
-
finished up the interior today! looks awesome.
waiting on springs says friday.
went to start today, repeated issue. confirmed no fuel pressure.
will investigate and probably order a pump should be easy fix- had pump out 3 times already messing with fuel vent / gage sender.
-
talked to 3 people today after being out side for 2 hours with a sign for 20k on it today. still holding it for jody to have first stab after springs and fuel issue resolved if she wants it.
-
new fuel pump module installed all good
new rear springs 1" taller installed (3" drop)
new keys in 2" drop kit were same as 3" keys bah!
milled them and made longer bolts, got ride where i want.
done
listed 21K OBO

What's the floor coverings you used there?
-
is that an in-floor storage box on the passenger side?
-
I think the floor in this one is Rustoleum Hammered paint. that passenger floor compartment is the original battery location.
-
ya just black hammared on this one, steel was all good.
battery box location deleted. has a frame rail under it now. battery moved to under hood.
need to get better pics.
drove around today for parts run, its fun! speedo and odometer is weird to have in one of these!
-
Oh, so that was the battery box. Nice.
-
100 miles clocked on this thing after today!
-
some dumb b on her phone vered into my lane merging on to Jefferson road with hard curbs on both sides and almost wrecked me today.
I slammed on brakes hard enough i ended up in a 4 wheel slide at about 45 degrees to my original direction of travel. throttle and steering was required to not case the curb as it was a 2 lane ramp with hard curbs
then later i coasted off of 531 out of fuel. i guess 1/4 really means empty. able to get it restarted and limp to a kwick fill at the first intersection barely lol
