Started on project attic renovation into rock climbing gym. First task at hand is demo and re-insulating as its not done properly now. It is a "knee-wall" configuration with ridge vents only. Currently the rafters are insulated up to the ceiling and blown in on top. No soffit vents or baffles for air pass-through. I plan to add soffit vents, baffles and insulate the knee wall and floor to have have a "cold-space" to hopefully fix my ice sickle problem.
Problem #1 is the rafters are 2x6 and the baffles take up about 2". This leaves me only able to use 4" insulation which is not ideal, but acceptable. But, 4" insulation is not available in 24" wide anywhere that I've looked.
I would rip some extension pieces to bump it out to 2x8, but I really don't want to add an extensions as I'll be screwing the climbing wall board to the rafters and there is just not enough meat to screw it all to the rafter securly.
I hate working on houses...
