i assume i am going to learn there is a reason why no one we race with uses tear offs.  the goggles we got are pretty good with roll offs but they have their limitations. 

i ran for a while with the roll off goggles over a full face helmet.  that would be the ticket if we could find a larger roll system.

I thought what you said the other guys did with a squirt bottle and rag would Prob work ok too. Simple.
I don't know if I would hate silt worse than mud... never been in real desert silt so I can't really say.
But I really hate mud.

mounting the roll off to the helmet has promise, I think. Agreed that a larger rolloff would be very nice both in length and height.

I think a bike water bottle cage w big bottle could work well for a squirt n wipe but that's some complex operation while under way.

Yea fragile is my thought. I wouldn't expect that to put up with mud and grit. Almost cheap enough to try though. Would need to drill for mounting I think.
