While wheeling at RC, I found out the hard way the oil pan is not a skid plate. Now I need to replace the pan. Do I need to replace the rear main seal at this time also or just the pan and gasket. While I'm on the subject ,SMike do you still have the template for a full skid you did for Tony's rubicon?
-
Replace the seal if it is leaking. Otherwise, just the oil pan gasket.
Do you really need a full skid? With a manual, just the oil pan should be sufficient. The Nth Degree oil pan skid I had was awesome. What about just plating a stock oil pan with a little sump armor?

smile armored up mine after i did the same think on rock creek 2-3 years ago..
leave the seal if you weren't leaking before the strike

So maybe something like this for the pan only. https://cdn.northridge4x4.com/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/T/E/TER4667100_1.jpg

That's the Nth degree pan that I have on my XJ. Aside from the fact that its the only skid I could find that would work with long arms, I like how it's built and how it mounts, and doesn't cause any interference with the drain plug. If you want, I can send you some pictures of mine.

Cool

So what's the difference between a Dorman $52 pan and a mopar $151
-
for what it means to you . . . $99

If the pan was in better shape I might have been able to patch it and continue to wheel.
-
That's some crusty nastiness...
-
Yeah it's only bad on the front of the L. The back side is still smooth.
-
at least it prelubed those stupid converter flange bolts for ya!
-
I sprayed those down 3 times since Saturday. All came out nice.

Here's the gasket and a trick set of standoffs (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160505/a9d92d6c75602043dcf791773e68704c.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160505/a4e1afe380e37ae012a71bfa1cf9828d.jpg)

Bag says to place in 4 corners and click the gasket to them. Then install pan and when left with only 4 corners unscrew and place correct bolt in place
-
And rtv the front and rear u shaped sections ,plus add rtv to rear main seal to fill in a gap.

Want to come do mine now? :-)

I am still in the process of this one. I didn't even attempt trying to get the cat and muffler apart i just used the sawzzall and will use a good union for the exhaust. i didn't want to drop my rainbow shaped shovel and not have it go back up once it sprang free.

Hahaha...good point

Home stretch now. Have the pan installed that went fairly straight forward. Took SMike advice and just past hand tight. Need to get the exhaust taken care of Saturday.
-
Drove around the block, check for leaks in a few min. Had to stop to cook dinner
-
About to tackle mine in the next week or so. Any advice tom?
Kinda thinking about mooching the exhaust idea Erik and Cora used from Gif.
