more of a weak point than I knew - the sketchy splines at the slip are probably not the weak point in that system :)
I'm shocked that bearing isn't making noise. Well, audible noise. It's bad, and that whole shaft really needs to be redone....

Was that carrier bearing an off-the-shelf unit from anywhere?

TH350 hasn't been finishing many races for me.

I've been rolling with just the carrier bearing holder for years now, its all you need!

driving with out a trans gage i discount any value to.

mechanical breakage of reverse i discount as a wear out or durability issue.  bad luck, rushed.

empty and running the trans dry because of poor mounting and torn up output seals leaking pan i discount (my 1.5 year failure)

i dont see any good reason why a good working built TH350 should have to come out of the car more than once a year for continued racing / wreck use.

congrats for getting the trans out of the cab though- that is a good step to the 2 hour swap goal.

It took me damn near as long as pulling it all, but I don't think I could do that alone.

Putting it back together the first time is going to take just as long, too :(
Wishing for some machine tools to make big square nuts the right outside dims to slip into the cut off tubes and weld in place, then bolt through the floor with 5/16 bolts. Hold the structure and tin together in mostly one step with about 10 bolts.

didn't check the dims I need, probably just under an inch. Not sure where I could find un-hardened square stock to drill and tap.

tractor supply hardware run is all that's likely to take me away, I'm short on nuts for most sizes. Need to take stock and figure out what I'm going to use.

If it's staying a TH350 there really isn't much to do. If it's changing, need to migrate mounts back and shorten rear shaft; rebuild front & mounts.

probably bolts up, gears would probably suck with 4.10s. I think a powerglide first is like 2.2

interesting point: 700s cost about twice as much as 350s on Summit. Each costs 3-4x its model designation.  hah. The most expensive 350 'kit' is where the 700s start.

upsides:
- way better gearing. Could race in high with 5.38s, . Would run out of balls way sooner than RPMs in low with 4.10s. top end in low with 5.38s is WAY faster than now. Equivalent to 3.73s. Low gearing with my 4.10s would be a shade better than going to 4.88s.
- seems to have an impression of being stronger, even though they seem deeply related and I have a feeling that's not really true apples-to-apples. Maybe stock-to-stock?
- need to rebuild most of the front driveshaft anyway
- can make an intermediate shaft from a CV carrier to run a TH350 after things move. super easy.
- after relocating the case, I won't need to move it to R&R the trans. I'll give myself the extra 3/4" of clearance I need.

Downsides:
- TV cable is 100% necessary, more fab
- need to move case, shorten rear, and lengthen intermediate shafts all by ~4"
- need to move trans mount, carrier bearing mount.
- redo floor tin, seat mounts, belt mounts
- catalog buy is twice as expensive

Tom and Smike helped me decide that ease of replacement is enough progress for this go-round. Going to replace with new for the race. Get floor ready to reassemble tomorrow, flush out the coolers and lines, reinstall tcase and shafts, shorten yoke a bit, make seat mounts ready. Then install trans floors and seats Friday.

Have Jim inspect this and rebuild with a core he likes better. This is a newer weaker core without room for the good goodies, apparently.

Frustrating.

Soft plans for the ~4" driveline migration either when I wreck a driveshaft and need to rework something anyway, or after the last line mountain race in September.
