Might be motivated to scab some shit on this and swap some tires tonight for a weekend trip. waiting on a phone call back from Aaron.
Otherwise, with the aux tank done, the Eagle stuff is next followed by this.
-
you should get another coupler so i can swap my plate on it too after you fix it ;D
-
this thing is a sweet RTI ramp, except there is a saturn in the way now
-
I should pull the trigger on that. Swapping couplers is annoying.
Saturn, huh?
Don't break the back off while it's still broken :)
And definitely will be over tonight to scab some fixes on, cut some fenders off, and swap some big boy tires on.
I need to Craigslist for a cheap set of 4 8 lug truck wheels and tires so I can scrap the wheels that are on it and have spares again.
Stupid last minute shit!
-
i may or may not have 4 a couple steel 16" truck wheels not sure what got scrapped last time.
-
I scabbed this back together as it was when purchased in the interest of time and materials. It's semi-OK with all the welds actually welded instead of cracked, but damn it's all hack and birdshit back there.
The bike loading went smooth. Back of the trailer is hugely taller than I'm used to, that's no good. Makes me continue to think about hinged goodness, especially if i decide to keep instead of sell.
Thanks Paul for the help!!

no problem
that bike makes me like mine even more :-)
-
Merc E300 TD says ramps are too short, and need expanded steel for traction.
-
That car is real fast for a diesel
-
I don't believe you. Converter is loose as shit at parking lot speed. Powered by wet noodle?
This wood-sprung rustbucket is probably not an example to test or judge by.
-
I drove it up and down the street and was blown away at how hard it pulls when the turbo spooled
-
wedge looks fine...

would be better with tomato and blue cheese
-
Astoria, Queens was pretty nice, streets just wide enough to get in; threw on the 4 ways and double parked on a wide avenue right on front of where the jeep was parked - no issues. Came in via the Triborough bridge and left via the Midtown Tunnel. There may have been a Better way to do that, but it worked.
Was in the wrong lane coming out and ended up taking 37th St all the way across Manhattan to the Lincoln Tunnel to cross into NJ.
Just fueled at the tpke plaza in Woodbridge NJ at $3.699.
Pics are
- where I unloaded the bike (shoulder of a busy road, no parking zone w 4 ways)
- picking up the CJ at SVE
- where I loaded in Astoria (double parked w 4 ways)
- actually able to see the XJ here in Woodbridge

-
drove the dumpbuss through NYC... WOW
that actually was the best way to go.. bruckner expressway is a parking lot on a good day...
-
It was a great day then, did 45+ onto the island. Return traffic looked slow though.
Your CJ generated some pointing and staring in midtown.
-
did the 5.3 fit in the back of the XJ?
-
That's tomorrow, last stop. I'm not sure it will, and if its iffy, I'm not going to make any gambles at all with either the engine or a pristine XJ.
Merc drop first thing in the AM, spending the night 20 miles away. I'm ahead of schedule for once, Mostly since my friend in Philthy had a graduation party to go to so I didn't stop to hang out.
-
that 5.3 will be attending your funeral if it goes into the XJ....
-
you have no faith arie
-
two can play at this game
-
if its not working mike just pay the guy ill get it another time. rather not wreck it or have it damaged from kicking around on the trailer deck.
-
mike is good..
nothing a few straps and some block cant solve...
-
aluminum pan, and plastic intake.... if either are broken its more hassel than the motor is worth. Its already missing an alternator.
this is no jeep motor
-
well i know where to get an alternator... ;)
-
mike is deff going down that way shortly.. perhaps as soon as next weekend if he is available and coming home with several S10's that can be moving platforms..
-
Fit like a glove in the bed of the CJ. Smooth ride, good blocking, secure strapping. It has a happy ride.
Pro tip: CJ will crank and not start with no key. That was my start to the day.

where are my seats?
Smike dont worry... no charge for the storage
Pro tip: CJ will crank and not start with no key. That was my start to the day.
duh
-
Duh? Nothing I have will crank without the key :)
Seats will be back in the back of the CJ as soon as smike gets here. Don't worry about it.
-
that CJ looks like a field truck that needs to go back to the field
-
that CJ is 63 years old...
how you going to look when your 63...
still starts every time..
wont be that way for long...

Hahahhahahahhahaha
-
best price I found for the coupler I want.
http://www.trailerparts.net/cgi-bin/eShop/index.cgi?cart_id=bzfrmuhekv&pid=658
needs the 4" x.250 square tubing added.
I'm not finding them with tubing without the silly super duper adjust that cost $300+
-
That is the one I got
-
I know
-
That thing is awesome!!!
-
only rated for 24K?
-
mike did we decided what trailer you are using regardless of what you are doing the 23rd weekend?
looks like i have a buggy, a jeep, and a tracker lined up which i think would work out weights ok not too bad if my 19.5's fit on the trailer.
-
only rated for 24K?
with a 400% safety rating?
-
Depends on what my returns are, assuming I'm hauling and not taking a weekend off to wheel.
-
only rated for 24K?
24-25 is what all are rated for until you get a 3" ball.
"only"? Hahahaha
-
i guess i was thinking cause the B&W rating of 30-36, they would be more
-
will that coupler go onto a square tube? says it is for round tube..
-
My coupler is on a square tube
-
id like to see if my 19.5's fit on either of mikes trailers, even just to know for future reference regardless if they aren't available for next weekend.
-
What would be different between his 19.5 on the trailer and your 19.5
-
the 19.5s on my trailer are 0ET, or close to it. Smike's are probably 24-30mm ET. It would be a frame to tire clearance issue. I think Smike's will fit fine on the wedge if and only if the one remaining inner splash shield is removed. I don't think they'll clear on the lowboy.
(dunno what ET stands for, but offset of mounting surface from wheel centerline)
will that coupler go onto a square tube? says it is for round tube..
where does it say that? that one has no tube at all. I see no confirmation on being able to attach to square vs round anywhere though. nor could I find a site for T.E.M., the manufacturer.
I only see that coupler listed with square tube in the full assembly with the fancy height adjuster thing.
-
I guess I am assuming since it says "no pipe" that it is for round.. probably just my background of only round couplers biasing my thoughts though..
-
possible I suppose.
they do have "the same" coupler on square stock though, I'd assume it's the same casting. Guess I'll dig a little harder and try to verify.
-
changed one term and found 'em.
http://www.temco-inc.net/gn25.html
-
I noticed that the square application is 3.5/4" tube, not 4/4.5" - I believe the footprint of 4" square tubing would not clear the hitch. Would need to step up from 3.5" to 4" to go into my receivers on the trailers. Or change up the lock bolt setups to come in from the corners and just stick round tube through there?
-
ET phone home!!
-
is my goose the bigger square then?
can i use the wedge then and have a tire swaping party? haha
TSC only has a round coupler in stock
-
Cut off the square weld on the round, problem solved. ;D
-
looks like etrailer does not sell coupler only they sell the set
-
nahh.. ram round peg in square hole.. much easier!
-
Cut off the square weld on the round, problem solved. ;D
and then have my two trailers be different, and not be able to use the 5th wheel kingpin plate I have either? fail.
-
crap, taking back a motor sucks without using my enclosed...
-
I thought of that this morning.
easy to build something secure at home from lumber in 15 minutes though.
-
true.
but room would be tight.
I should just pay my own way and try not to wheel a free rausch trip, take my enclosed. Bah!
-
coupler ordered.
best deal found http://www.esourcetrailerparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SM2516NP
need to find big square tubing now.
-
M4 will sponsor free welding services for this. please do not HF this here by next week? ;)
-
Hope so. Need the square stock too.
-
How many mazdas and a liberty can for on that fucker...
Just bought 3, 2 got to go down south...
-
3 vehicles unless they're Smart cars. 45' of deck space.
-
I have to do the same thing. Let me know where you find the square stock that big.
I was almost thinking of taking the brand new CT round one I have and welding plate to it to make it square.
-
whats the size again you need? 4.5" box x 250wall?
-
could make a chunk of box also.
-
4.0x0.25
May need to step down to 3.5x0.25
Calling Surplus shortly.
-
They don't have any full sticks of either listed. Guess I'll have to visit.
-
may be able to weld up a box, i have the technology
-
that's a lot of quarter plate to use up to make something probably purchasable.
seems worthy for the possibly needed short length 3.5" step-down though.
-
Damn, doesn't look like Peterson has matching amber marker lights. I didn't feel like replacing more than the couple broken ones and getting an ID bar on there.
-
hmm.. what was the dimension of my square tube??
-
Dunno, you never posted them and the CL ads where they were in text are expired.

-
3 and 5 inch
-
i have 10" wide by 8' sheets of 1/4" in stock i think, nut sure how much i chewed through
-
Alex got me a 3' chunk of 4x4 at Surplus this morning. Was all they had in drops unfortunately. Sorry Matt!
-
$30 off $57.57 at Advance tonight. All wedge lights are now legal. Fixed the bad tail light in the ram. Gooseneck lowered, adjustment lock bolts done. Adjusted toe in one turn; probably needs more. Working late blows, didn't get started until 7 or 8.
Going to use the chunk of 2" tube I got from smike last night and plumb the transfer tank before I call it a night. I think that was the last think on my "now" list.
-
How did you get 30$ off at advanced?
-
i am guessing six 5$ off monster jam coupons and a helpful cashier lol
-
haha 1 item at a time please :)
-
I order stuff online and use coupon codes, then pick up in store. It works great.
-
Thank you Monster Jam sponsorship. And Paul, Erica, and good timing for an empty store to waste the time.
-
All loaded up and sitting down to dinner at Outback.
Had a few minutes to kill so I checked a
height. Liberty is 5'9" tall, and forward facing on the top of the trailer (not on the flip outs) it makes me about 11'4". I raised the coupler 2-3" last night too.
Mazda2 a little further back puts me at 10'2".
-
Are you coming back full?
-
2 pickup trucks returning, so I guess I have one spot open from DC (thats the Liberty destination) to Norfolk VA and back.
-
I want a cheap VW convertible, Rabbit or Cabrio. 8)
-
That would be fun.
Saw this, also fun. Not for sale...
Long day of fuel issues today. I noticed 0psi fuel pressure on a climb last night before I stopped. No other symptom. Thought that was odd since I'd never seen such before and I'd just changed the filter a couple weeks ago. Figured id pick up a spare filter today just in case.
Well this morning just in case turned into must. Zero pressure more often than not, and taking forever to come back up. I was pulling minor hills at 35 miles an hour. Sadly, the hour wasted changing the fuel filter and cleaning the screen made no difference at all.
I was down to about a quarter tank of fuel so I sort of suspected potential draw straw issue. I went to a Lowe's, and got proper parts to mate the two hoses, and draw straight from the auxiliary tank. Again, no change. Very mildly better from the additional pressure of a higher thank gravity feeding. Very mildly.
I called ahead to UCI Washington, the warehouse where I was going to deliver. Smitty had to call a store to check the part number, but they had one in stock, and he grabbed it for me. After I delivered and installed a new lift pump. on the side of the road of course.
In addition to being a plain old pain in the dick, it gave me one difficult issue. One of the hard lines has a tapered fitting, and the collar would not spin on it. I probably spent half an hour working to break the collar free of the line. Think of trying to reuse an old brake line and its fitting.
-
1956 California plate on the bug, by the way.
So once I got the pump replaced I fired the truck up, and everything seemed perfectly fine.
Once I started bopping down the road though, I started losing fuel pressure again. Along with my mind. After blowing some serious white smoke up a hill with the truck barely running, I noted that my fuel gauge was approximately 3/4. As soon as I pitched downhill, the truck ran great with good fuel pressure no matter how hard I beat on it. The auxiliary tank had completely emptied itself with the overflow valve adding half a tank of fuel to the main tank, exhausting the 25 gallons I'd put in the auxiliary.
I've never been so happy to be out of fuel in my life! I pulled over on the side of I495 on the MD side of DC and hooked the fuel feel back up tithe main tank. Aside from getting diesel in my eye when the barbs let go suddenly all went as planned. Zero fuel issues since.
So the protip of the day is: don't run out of fuel right after you change a lift pump. The symptoms look confusingly similar!
And no, I don't owe Nick $5. It's a little late, and that's more parts that transferred from the old motor. 305,000 miles at failure.
-
Hitch is awesome. Thanks a ton!!
Confirmed tire eating machine though. Right front is scrubbing the inside off. I have some tire swapping to do this week.
-
Hitting up the CL hard for rhimmmzah and tahrs.
-
I've got some 30-40% Grabber AT2s.
Shop time this weekend to straighten an axle? Probably need to raise or remove the fenders too. 265s are rated at ~3400# - that's much better than ~3000#.
-
3 trucks on deck, and my cummins needs a lift pump change again. not the best timing but ill see how it goes. Sunday afternoon would be best potential right now.
-
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/3142548991.html
-
you missed where I have 4 tires and wheels I guess
-
no, i saw the 3400lb thing. assuming you will want good spares haha
-
If I get the RF to stop chewing tires, I have good spares with the 4 "new" tires
-
Axle straightened and 265s bolted up. Need another couple of three car hauls now to see if it's fixed. Or just paint it and sell now :)
Stared at the back for a while. No easy fix jumps out at me. Construction is weird to begin with, hack and scab addition is quite integral and not easily cut off. Thinking its fine for now.
-
I want a cheap VW convertible, Rabbit or Cabrio. 8)

-
that first pic is epic magazine quality!
-
That is a cool thing.
-
i think things are different
-
Things are very different but its a damn nice rabbit pickup :)
-
Damn ugly pos!
-
Did some searching on a whim last night, I'm 90% sure this is a VIN swap and it's either a Kaufman or an Appalachian. Not that it really matters.
For my own happy future use and best resale I'm thinking:
- fix and protect rear marker lights, (again :) )
- scrap shit rear bracing and reframe the extension to match rest of trailer. cut old frame cap off and use as new rear bumper? Add crossmembers as needed. Clean junk shit off frame. Ramp storage.
- ramp traction (expanded steel)
- add rub rail over shitty stake pockets, or cut off and replace with D rings
- paint & conspiscuity tape
As cheap as it it'll still be, since its still weird and i assume still a flooded market, I'm not sure redoing the rear right is worth the effort. Might just do a halo frame around it instead; be easier.
-
The spacers turned out great, but the hub shoulders and wheel studs are really too short on three of the four hubs. Of course the one that's pretty acceptable is the only one I looked at.
Probably can't get away with what I'm running and will have to get wheels.
-
Who wants to pick up (3) mounted tires an a spare hub and bearing set for me at Rausch on Monday from Dan Guyer? $400.
Should solve the sketchy wheel issue. May be worth swapping some wheels and tires around to keep the best spares when this goes away.

Sounds like a lot of money
-
Can do but I'm too far for the last leg of the relay. Let me know.
-
for brand new LR E? not a lot of money. I don't feel bad giving Dan a few bucks in any case. He lost a lot of shit in that trailer flop.
Thanks Mark - Phelps is closer than Rausch :)
-
yeah, we'll get them Rochester bound.
i can front cash. i owe you for the D60 pickup
-
these are tires off the cartwheeled trailer? haha, sounds risky for bend and broken belts
-
Have him hook up with us once we're all there. I can front cash too.
-
No, these are new spares. Thanks for the frontage
-
o, cool probably not a bad deal then.
-
you should look at the tires that are on my wedge if they fancy you. 19.5's will end up on it if i keep it, and sell my truck with stock bfgs
-
I'm sure your wedge tires are worthy of some sort of use.
I figure good new LR E spares will not go to waste among our happy litte family. I've been using a 15 year old LR D for my spare for years (and it's saved wedgie as well as Corik's tag trailer in its life so far...)
-
bump :o
-
bump for what?
it needs work. sounds likely it'll be going to VA soon.
-
sell this pile
-
mmkay
-
just put it up for 2500 as is lol

it needs work. sounds likely it'll be going to VA soon.

this available for a srw cummins retrieval from Wellsville NY? tire status?
asking price still as discussed?
-
I don't remember discussed price. almost certainly though ;)
I believe it has the ATs on it now with spacers and inadequate lug nut engagement. Tires could be swapped for what is on the Dakota right now - it has 3 new and one old proper size proper backspace. Those could be included for the right price.
It is available and so is lowboy which may be better all around as long as you have a legit brake controller for the sweet hydraulic brakes. pickup and especially return parking is much easier w the wedge.
-
I have a P3 which will run hydraulic, correct?
I would love to try out real brakes and see how much I will be forced to spend once I fall in love with them.
Truck that is being picked up is inop. Both trailers have functioning winches, correct? do either need special hookups for them?
-
wedge wired remote was lost, has no onboard battery. I have wireless remotes that could be installed.
I lost the lowboy wireless remote and need to swap out that brain. wired works fine. has onboard battery.
I run a P3; I want to swap out to their controller to see if it helps build pressure faster initially since it has feedback.
-
I believe matt has an extra full set of trailer tires that were in ok shape off his enclosed. F rated tires and wheels got swapped on.
The winch on my wedge only works with the international
-
If lowboy is available Sunday that would be awesome. What is appropriate compensation for a day of use? Pick up late morning, drop off in the evening. I can mess with the remote if you have the correct brain for it.
Will the wiring reach my 7 pin on the bumper?
-
real trucks have plugs where they belong.
I have an extension for fake trucks ;)
Can you swing by this evening for a tour of needed configs? I have dog class, will be home right after work. 6ish? Might be able to swing earlier.
-
6pm will be good.
text me if i need to be early/late
thanks
-
I will take 1500 as is right now from anyone on here, 2000 with the 4 new E rated trailer tires.
I decided on my way home from LM that I'm going to try and sell this, and make my lowboy a stepdeck with the proceeds. Put the popup on the neck plus 2 cars, or be able to fit 3 cars. To buy the actual type of stepdeck I want, I'm looking at 20 grand or so - it would be a custom trailer. I figure I can do this work and net even money instead of costing 10 grand - hopefully while re-decking, and maybe even having it blasted for repaint.
I'd like to park 928, 571, 572 nose to tail and get real length numbers to work with. May as well look at cab to axle space and height on the international too so there could be one other potential tow rig. I'm okay commiting myself to a flatbed or a tractor to do my heavy towing. It's silly to waste that neck length.
-
15K is too much weight on those axles in my opinion. three real cars vs three 3200lb cars is different.
-
back of envelope says 28350 gross (going light on the cars), 15100 on 14k worth of trailer axles.
going with 5k each car, 15700/ 29150
that's assuming 20% tongue weight, and current trailer weight. Tongue and trailer total would be a bit more than that. Seems within enginearing tolerance
-
One whole car will basically be on the truck axle though right? That's how baby 7k trailers get away with telling you its ok to put 6k on them. Not that I would, but this stuff is much more HD
-
And the next broken rim candidate goes to mike!! :)
-
needs kitchen hauler 10K oil baths :)
-
Some shitstain cut the 7pin cord off this thing. Wtf?
Ramps still there. Suspension parts still in the toolbox. Plate still on it.
"Showing" tomorrow morning. Potential disaster. Stay tuned!
-
that sucks
-
Let me know when it falls through and I'll lowball you ;) 8)
i'm joking.
kinda.
-
1500 wasnt lowball enough?? Lol(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/u3eha5at.jpg)
-
Anyone remember if my extension cord had been on/with the wedge? Wasn't in my toolbox, that's usually where it got used.
-
Shit. I think I have it.
When do you need it? I can drop off at lunch if needed or at 5pm
-
that's great news!
if you could drop it after work that'd be awesome. The cord on his trailer is too short to reach the plug on my deck. I have the opposite problem from you pickup truck guys since I haven't put a plug back on the tail of the bed yet after the rewiring I had to do.
-
so is this thing sold?
-
guy called me on my wedge, didnt want to pay for a nice trailer so i told him we had another POS and told him where it was :)
-
It's a long story :)
We'll see how it works out
-
is the single trailer nice at least?
-
10-4 lol
-
Lightweight. '92 model year. Needs a deck soonish. Fresh wiring and lights. I'd say $700 trailer. So it would clist for 1300? :)
-
lol
-
Clist cost for a car trailer is Appalachian MSRP + $200
-
This is an 80" wide unit with no ramps present and no breakaway battery. Need to keep tape measures away for that pricing!
-
breakaway battery? Ramps? whens the last time you've bee on CL? lol

Guy I've been taking payments from had his Ford try to put him under. It blew up in Oregon. Traded it for an older dodge that blew up too and then he was out of money. Left his nice Take Three wedge in storage out there and flew home. He already had the FL70 it just want quite ready to go. Got my trailer to get back on the road, and just got back out there to get his back. Trying to sell mine to pay me off now. Hopefully.out works out!

wasn't expecting to see that. I was hoping it's for delivery, but the CL ad is still up. Can't tell if my plate is still on it or not.
EDIT: he'd moved the plate right above the ID bar on the rear frame. Plate is off. He has a NY plate on his wedge so he didn't borrow it for that... Fingers crossed!
Double edit: the toolbox is off, and strapped to his trailer.

Back to Idaho. Unload the trailer in the morning, pick up some cars and start the trek to New York.
