Very very true. I still need to do front axle seals too. Should get some 5.38s in there and use more third gear...

Pretty sure I found the funny front end noise.

Anyone ever get inner axle seals to live? Outer bearings took a BEATING from crap coming in the backside. Surprising still appear serviceable. I really really want a parts washer though. Really.

Don't know if these will work for you.  I'm going to run them.

Sorry, I meant inner spindle seals. Axle seals are trashed too but I'm not as worried about them...  They live for a while sometimes as opposed to never ever living.

Sweet find mark.

Never had good luck with spindle seals either... ever.
I just grease and or replace them often. Seems we do alot of wheeling in water I guess.

Its however you last assembled it. First time I've taken it apart IIRC. Parts were present just not sealing anymore.

Axle in/out without outer c clip probably doesn't help it

Doesn't mean it isn't the reason. Axle walk is probably still a thing.

Anyone know what the difference in 14 bolt install kits is pre/post 1988 model year?

Yukon lists MK GM14T-B as '89+ and MK GM14T-A as '88-
No idea which I have. I'm getting install kits since I'm short on spare shims. Preload on the front is SUPER light BTW. Carrier and pinion installed and it'll coast for a full revolution. Feels like the pinion should without a seal installed, kinda funny :)

85' K30 should be your look up.

The first design was produced from 1973 to 1984. The first design remained unchanged until 1986. This design had drums that were held on by the wheel studs and had a smaller diameter pinion bearing than the second design. The second design was produced from 1986 to present. One change that occurred in the second design was that on some models the brake drum could be removed without having to remove the hub and axle shaft. Additionally, the pinion received a larger diameter bearing while the pinion stayed the same diameter, which increased the durability of the pinion. All these axle are full floating.

trail gear/longfield spindle bushings ordered. replace seal and bearing with a teflon piece. we'll see how they do; they're well-reviewed.
