Motor?
-
it has a real cool sound to it now
-
found that i put the stage 8 lock nut on backwards and my wheel was close to falling off. only noticed the bias mud line in the shop ridding dirty on one side of the lugs.
removed and re assembled tonight.
remembered shocks need machine work and didnt get anything eyed up to much.
-
i had one of my old school tech guys at work stop over and listen to my motor. he says bottom end is good, but i have a blown wrist pin and the piston is slapping a valve. only cause where its in a certain rpm band. rienforcements are coming tomorrow for a second ear.
bottom line he said run it for the next RCROCS race, but he wouldnt run it for an 800$ race....
-
This thing is just as much of a pos as that red toyota!!!!!!!z
-
I would say get it in before rc rocs and make sure the bugs are worked out before $800 race
-
That sorta makes sense
-
options in the werx
-
motor guy #2 stopping over, he aready says hed bet me a new motor there is a piston skirt laying in the pan. he has a bunch of good power options also on hand ready to go :)
-
haha..
-
Lets do this....
-
told you they were gonna say pull the pan :)
what's up at M4 tonight? I have a wedge to drop off, a full set of fuel lines to install, and rear driveshaft ujoints to change out. All of which I can do there or home.... but I have a handy spare tire in the bed to test fit on the rear of your truck.
Probably free after 7:30 or so.
-
zero point in pulling the pan in car.
if i can get a motor lined up ill swap it this weekend.
-
motor is puzzling guru guy number two. he has an 9 sec nova, with plates :o
he his thinking piston skirt, main bearing, or cracked flex plate.
is so confused how dam well the motor runs and sounds.
-
i think he talked me into pulling the pan, but really i see no point. bah.
-
motor and trans sitting on the floor. need to grab my stand from old shop and pull apart tomorrow to find goodness broken.
-
Good job.
-
wasnt too bad with the lift and new shop.
sweating concrete is annoyingly slippery though!
-
Just replace it, why even bother looking at it?
-
Troy should come grind the concrete and give it some texture!
look at it because it only makes noise so far, it's not really broken. glad the lift improved the annoyance factor.
I only got ujoints done last night. Hope they were my problem. Wrapped up just as the light show was starting, I didn't get dripped on.
-
Best case is you replace main bearings and they last another race, then pull it again.
Worse case you pull it apart and discover scored cylinder walls from a broken piston, machine work and parts =$$$
Why not just replace it with one of the options and be done for another year? Why waste time diagnosing a problem just to replace it anyway? Time = money at M4 now. 8)
-
no time wasted, the trans is going in for rebuild, and i need my HPHV oil pump since oil was clean.
-
oil sump pickup was laying in the pan....
-
Ouch... di you have a pressure gauge.. or that hard to see like the voltage ?
-
yes i have gages
-
Not bad to see at all, and it never went to zero. I was watching it since as the motor got hotter the pressure would drop. Always at least 15-20 psi. P

flat bed worth anything to you aaron?
looks like sweet tires for the janitor

flat bed worth anything to you aaron?
looks like sweet tires for the janitor
it does not look to bad, would need to know the length from front to wheelwell to see if it would really fit... but no cash right now though
-
That bed looks pretty nice...
-
Smike I could probably scratch $500 together for that bed
-
no go, just called its a Carb motor.
-
found a 5.3 vortec with a harness local i think im going to give a try. from a crashed 01
looks like all i need to bolt up my trans is this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HUP-HP3795/
In 2001, GM - for the first time since 1955 - changed the crank depth and its pilot bore diameter of the Gen. III. Pilot bushings differ for these motors and transmissions built from this time forward had a deeper bellhousing and different torque converter.
-
http://www.jegs.com/i/GM%20Performance/809/12563532/10002/-1?CT=999
-
Do it. I have a FSM with wiring colors and a list of wires you need to keep. I can help with wiring if you need.
-
Ya this with be a cheap soulution and ill get all the annoying shit for the next l33 build on the next car.
-
someone come over and wire this bitch so i can go racing!
5.3 LM7 270hp factory?
motor and full harness picked up this morning, its in the buggy now.
-
nice, you didnt have to make new motor mounts?
-
probably not, but i have to get headers and a TC adaptor before i can get it mounted for good. just wanted to hang it in and see if i had any major issues.
need to get a starter motor also.
-
Nice
-
Wiring it is not hard, I can have her running in an evening. You need the computer flashed before you get it going, or its gonna run in limp mode or something. Lots of things can be turned off and should be turned off. Trans controls, rear O2 sensors, Torque management, and other annoyances should be done away with.
-
its got EGR that i took off also.
ya ill send out the ECM Monday, unless i can get people at work to do it.
-
parts ordered from jegs. 1st time lets see how this one goes lol
25$ for 6 11mm bolts, wTF uses 11mm bolts
-
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/2895335991.html
-
Sorry I didn't see your text. Ignored the world all day...
-
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/2895335991.html
That looks to be a SBC 5.7 starter, not the LS starter.
-
and so it begins, jegs you fail
Thank you for choosing JEGS!

Use a credit card.
I just got up to 88mph in the dippy!!! I think with a long flat straight away I bet it could make it to 95. Not to bad for a car that has a 0-60 in about 25 seconds!!
-
looks like summit and jegs have a new policy they instant transfer from the visa attached to the paypal acount instead of the bank account attached, paypal had some 3 year old bad visa number and it was rejected. wont let me "update" the card with a pending transfer so now i have to cancel both orders and re order. what a fucking mess once again.
-
6 phone calls and back on track! ok now i can start my sunday lol
-
PayPal sucks. Don't let them hold your money, they're not a bank. If anyone gives them a complaint, they can lock that shit down and you have no recourse...
Take your payments and grander funds back to your bank and make your purchase payments with visa or MC like some respectable folk.
-
PayPal is the shit
-
I like paypal, it wasn't their fault.
-
I like PayPal.
-
Ive only had problems sending money to arie, everything else works great
-
Is there a 101 flyer? I need one by tomorrow night.
-
Is there a 101 flyer? I need one by tomorrow night.
wrong thread wrong forum :-p
Dave says design is done
-
ECM in the air
-
I can't get to the other forum on my phone. Will you email me it?
-
fingerlakes is on tapatalk, c'mon.
IDK if it will be DONE for tomorrow night or not. and I don't think I have your email address either.
-
was just talking to past owner of 571's TBI motor:
I got it from a guy who junked an old blazer...said it had "around 80K" on it...being a replacement at one time. I had it in my '89 for a few years... then you got it.
so awesome what that thing put up with when i got it haha
-
they can take a lickin for shore
-
yea, should be able to grab a starter motor and bolts tomorrow from motor source guy.
-
Is there a 101 flyer? I need one by tomorrow night.
basic info page up, pre-reg up, fliers should be done very shortly and insurance should be locked in midweek.
www.fingerlakes4x4.org/101
I'll put the flier up once it's published...
-
Thanks I just ended up giving the guy the website and date and told him to check it for specifics.
-
TBI wiring out.
TBI motor mounts out and frame cleaned.
Trans bolted up with adaptor parts.
LM7 motor side motor mounts being made. Should be in the chassis tomorrow....

-
The ls engines have spare ports for a temp sensor, hookup your oil pressure, and the ecm has an output for a tach.
-
sheesh, what a rat's nest of hoses and wiring. :-\ Suppose it is all necessary.
-
na, only some of it :)
-
Too late a night working last night. This morning was rough.
-
i am just now getting to my morning duties after meetings, tour, and 5 disctracting desk visits by people wanting their hands held.
eating lunch and then heading to Fleetpride
suck it up!
-
I sucked it up and got here at 9:18! ;D
-
fleet pride no go in getting the ujoint i need. i ordered 2, should be here tomorrow. bah.
-
Poopy. Not much to do then unless it wants to come back out for fun. I guess easier to full weld and brace mounts without the motor in the hole?
-
who do you guys deal with @ FP
Dick Windhauser stores his shit with me and has a good relationship with Nu Way.. hes the pres of street machines...
I can call if it will help..
-
steve something, he looked manager ish. when i threw a yoke on the table and told him i needed one of these and not to ask what or where its from, it pick up a caliper and walked to a shelf, so i approved.
sadly he was out of stock of the Conversion joint i needed. for only 25$ i ordered two that will be here tomorrow morning.
honestly the old one is going to get new 1350 caps and new grease, i dont have time in the schedual to loose a day and the motor will be in for good tonight to move on to other things.
-
hope they fit right
-
replacing 1350 caps missing needles with new 1350 caps would not fit why?
-
different brands of joints have different cap thicknesses/needle lengths & diameters/ cross diameters.
spec only dictates OD and lockup dimension, all the internal stuff can and will vary between brands and suppliers. I've had caps that will not fit on "the same" joint
-
interesting,
all my joints are naepco(sp) or spicer
-
this working till 2am thing is getting old this week :o
ECM is in an express box and maybe be here tomorrow
Last night got the motor and trans mounted to the buggy- needs a few my gussets and little tube for the main engine mounts, but it wont come out again.
Provisions for water temp, oil pressure, steering hydro also completed.
-
Where did you decide to get oil pressure from?
-
that port thing on the side like you said. it had a nice rubber gasket behind the plate that was in good shape
-
awesome.
you think you'll have a computer today? I assume wiring can start either way.
Busy day at work so I'm not getting much 101 shit done, but booklet updates are all that's left and that should be sneakable somewhere. I'm picking up fliers today and will have them at the prerun.
Need to make sure my saw and hedge trimmer run.
-
exhaust, coolant hoses, finish motor mounts, fit hood, extend fuel lines, plumb gages, make MAF and filter fit, chase vac holes and plug shit and remove motor junk, pull shock to rebuild, rear sway bar, rear bushings rebuild, Fluids race prep, mod hood
ECM is being expressed over today, so maybe tomorrow or monday.
-
You have "hood" in there twice. Now your list is -1... ;)
-
fit hood, mod hood, two different types of fabrication :)
-
cooling done, exhaust done, air cleaner almost done.
needs wires, fuel hood, sway bar, and then normal race prep.
-
wish I could have helped, Its been hell at my house with the kids getting sick and then me starting work.
-
starting work would be a good thing no?
-
few hours of prep tonight after festive mother gatherings
she cranks when i hit the button, all harness that i need is plugged in and 95% tidyd up. trans, steering, engine, coolant filled and ready for fire. MAF and filter setup done.
remote fuel fill parts bought, but i was wrong on guessing pipe size, its a wire like 2 1/4" pipe size?
ryan you want to give me a hand tomorrow? i think i am close as i can be and ill print shit out tomorrow more for my year. im not sure your harness is the same as mine because it is a blue and red harness.
couple wires to hack into, and slap in a new fuel pump relay she will be good to go.
-
http://www.lt1swap.com/99-02_vortec_pcm.htm
4-5 wires it looks like, nice.
-
Yea, I will can come up tonight. About 6ish
Shock is all rebuild and ready to go.
-
awesome. ill print out stuff. i think i have all the terminals and relays i need. might be short on small gage wire ill see what i can get.
-
picked up the computer at the post office this morning.
-
Is this one of the motors you can turn the intakemainfold around so the filter is in the back so you can run it into the cab if you wanted to
-
yes, this is one of those motors. i dont have time to change my firewalls and such to make that work right now but its for sure in the future plans
-
test driven. this motor has a bit of seat o pants power o yes.
thanks for help ryan.
she has good oil pressure, no noises and purrs like a chetaaa
after a few starts the iac started behaving plugged in, must have been a learning thing its good to go now.
awesome power. truck fully wired and cleaned up and test driven. may need to pick the ass up with the janitor fully bleed the cooling system, but i think i realized this motor has a 195 stat and not a 160 stat so its probably fine.
on to little stuff like hood, sway bar, and race prep. should be good to go for this weekends race.
front driver upper king pin fucked, note to self to investigate.
-
Solid spacers, lose the springs.
-
Solid spacers, lose the springs.
1.5" Sanitary End Caps fit perfect.. ;)
-
That... was not even close to the problem. O_o
One kingpin now welded to the inner C; threads stripped.
Other hinges done. It is late.
Pretty much race ready.
-
upper links adjusted to give more clearance to headers
shot upper bushings replaced
LH thread sway bar jam nut made and installed
hood finished clearance for air filter
abrasion prevention added in 3 places
headlights fixed and wired
full grease job
vulcd KRT still leaks in 3+ places
-
Booo.
-
it will need at least one more patch on the inside, no more vluc work needed, unless he will fix the part that still has a small leak right over where he repaired the sidewall, and slime will do the rest i guess. expensive tire.
-
Have you determined departure time on Friday?
-
i would really like to leave at 11-12 again and pre run
not sure that will happen and many people will bitch about supporting me to do that work and non work related :o
-
We won't be leaving till after 6pm.
-
I need to take a final at 10 or so I should be done by 1130.
-
that could work?
Mike what are you plans? maybe hitch a ride with Ryan if you cant leave till later?
i am mostly worried all the air is out of the cooling system and wouldn't mind prerunning.
-
get a burping funnel
(https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTQqtdRFVoXgcSQtomgyn3pLsbeRAurEiFM7ApZj6jYsZj5Dcyk)
i have one if you want to borrow it
-
i have to kinda giggle at that.
not sure you understand that non oem cooling system i have lol.
i have to use the lift or the the janitor to pick the back of the truck up 6' in the air to bleed air....
-
What are you doing about a remote gas filler?
-
crap do we need that for RC races?
-
no, passed tech last race right?
-
No way I'm leaving early tmw unfortunately. Board meetings yesterday and today, big video system issue yesterday, and set up for some commencement stuff tomorrow along with catching up on usual work... Blah blah. Work gets in the way of things I'd rather be doing.
Think I'll just drive myself down. May be grabbing some tires from Trevor in Scranton on my way back up Sunday too depending on what we do.
-
no, but Ultra 4 races do.
Just wondering if you had a plan
-
Remote fill needed for RCQ not RCROCS I believe. And what I just posted is regarding this weekend. I have RCQ Friday vacation already.
-
true, haven’t seen it, but the principal should apply no?
is your cap not the highest point of the system?
-
my cap is not the highest point, no
-
got it..
-
i need a new one of these
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Pigtail-Socket-BWD_5973171-P_422_R%7CGRPSESWAMS_____
thats the right picture but got knows what they have it listed wrong as lol
-
its a YJ brake pedal thingy????
just bought one the other day for myself..
-
the brake assembly in 571 is actually out of my 75 CJ5 and uses the OEM brake switch. i had replaced it with a new one from napa when i built the CJ but it has failed.
apparently it is a common part with AMC eagles, so rockauto says so ;D
-
man dont feel like chasing cerp belt sizes and idler / tensioners right now lol
-
matt, mike should be at the shop after 7, leaving work shortly need to run to wegos.
-
leaving work now, need to shop and pack tonight still too.
uugh
-
remember i have nightly trucks down that way...
support those who support you!!!
-
there are two 5.3's down in our storage probably headed for the scrap pile with 07' tags on them :'(
-
Very sad.....:'(
-
I was just reading about 5.3 swap in the jeep
-
Melted oil pressure line to gage prerunning, allfixef up.
-
808 has a HEMI 5.7 from a Magnum :)
-
power washed 571 and started tear down tonight.
found broken rear axle vent
loose high pressure line on steering pump
bent/tweaked banjo bolts copper washers on passenger side front caliper
empty front brake circuit
all upper chassis link bushings shot
front shaft yoke hits exhaust on full bump and took out an 02 sensor
both diff covers loose bolts and leaking
broken head light
-
Congrats on your race with the new power plant. Maybe we should all it "Timex"
-
looking at this one:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-13960/
-
summit has 10 packs of copper banjo bolt washers for 2.95$ that is pretty good lol
-
2 copper line kits, trans cooler, and some spare bango washers for the trailer order expressed.
in talks with PSC for some other upgrades.
-
why does psc not list the extra mounting kit in the size i need for 2.5 cyclindars >:(
-
PSC DE 2.5 ram, clevis kit, and extra clamps on its way from Texas to M4....
Getherdun
-
score, we had a recognition lunch today for like a team of 30 people paid by the bosses for a program launch, and after the lunch my boss grabbed me and took me upstairs into an executive conference room with lots of super bosses. 2 of us got checks, ha. neat.
-
Good job.
Super bosses. Hahaha
-
Maybe they should hire you?
-
Good job.
Super bosses. Hahaha
this, and congrats
-
Nice!
-
very cool
-
rear axle vent tapped in better place
steering high pressure output fitting changed and spare added to "tool bag" parts
window nets removed for 101
-
man, i dont see a charge from PSC on my CC. Kelvin said it was going out the door Tuesday.... FML
-
i just dont understand how people can be so worthless
still has not left their door and it is now thursday PM.
and actually i dont even know if i am paying or he is paying for the extra shipping cost after i just hung up.
-
babysitting vendors is a lifestyle ::)
-
People suck.
Took 4 weeks to get a stock diff cover for my Dmax rear from :http://mad4wd.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=121&products_id=851
-
I got an invoice he 2day air;d it and didnt charge me, it might be here tuesday, stupid.
-
Tuesday? Crap.
Guess the weekend isn't a front end fab-fest, then :(
-
no, club meeting tuesday wont help either
-
The meeting is getting in the way next week.
-
M4wd may not be available for location- are we even looking for a new meeting spot?
-
We were looking until we did not find any. :o
-
no, club meeting tuesday wont help either
FFFFFUUUUUU
Yeah
-
Mike how old are your harnesses? Ultra4 rulebook says they must be replaced after three years from the date of manufacture. ::)
-
my harnesses are completely illegal and modified, they should be 3 years old this December i believe.
make ryans fire extinguisher mount better if you like your ears to not rattle!
-
i was thinking about this hog last night on the drive home I think when the PSC box comes tomorrow, its going on the shelf next to the new CO's for the new buggy. I just dont want to have a brand new steering system on the front of the truck when i know i just wont spend the time installing it and tuning it like i should.
-
Make brackets thicker for longer bushings then, maybe? Something to make it last at least most of a race before it gets sloppy shitty and I have thoughts of yard saleing at speed?
-
my harnesses are completely illegal and modified, they should be 3 years old this December i believe.
make ryans fire extinguisher mount better if you like your ears to not rattle!
Haha oh boy! And yeah I pointed out that there's no way the plastic mount will last. Both of mine failed in the YJ just from trail wheeling!
-
sat on the nice cold concrete floor tonight for a few minutes staring at the front of the truck, i think it gets hosed because the dirrection of the bolt is wrong. lock to lock the ram rotates, so it tries to egg out and fuck the mount, may flip the truss side mount so the bolt is horrozontal instead of vertical?....
swapped some bushings and flipped some links. also made a remote fuel fill for the cell
snapped both the rear caliper bleeders off after application of ample PB and torch, no go. fuck them. stupid reman calipers i hate them. not going to change the rear flex line.
-
so i am not crazy, PSC site lies

Wow very interesting. Three decimal placed my ass! ;D
-
if you look at the picts on their website.. they show a larger gap on the inside clamps
(http://www.pscmotorsports.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1//9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/img_0008-2.jpg)

-
now that i look at it the dimensions on the SC14 and SC16 clevis' are wrong too lol
-
Nice.
Bag of bolts dropped off shortly. Will be adjusting neck restraint before I head over after work and work is brutal today. Uugg.
-
Throw it on a lathe and fix it. ;D
-
that actually was my thought ryan too haha
-
beat on this guy a little today, maybe its fine.
